Does anyone know what kind of oil they put on coal? We just got 2 ton of rice and the oil was $8.00 a gallon. One gallon per ton. I would like to buy my own as we have 4 stoves in the family and we could share it.

Help Please,
Happy Thanksgiving
Stan

You "oil" your coal?
For what reason ?
Not being funny ..just never heard of it . Is it something for stokers?

I think the place I get my coal from uses a non food grade vegetable oil. I got coal with and without the oil. There is noticably more dust without the oil. Because my coal is in an unfinished basement I just spray it with a bit of water once in a while to keep the dust down. If you are dumping coal in a stove in the living quarters the oil is worth the cost.

My understanding is that the breakers use a low grade vegetable oil.

Others have used peanut oil.

I have mine oiled when it's delivered (A few bucks more a ton), but It really reduces the dust. He just sprays it down as it being fed into the auger with a garden sprayer
