Stove stinks - not running of course!

Any remedy for a smelly Keystoker stoker stove that smells of sulphur? It ran flawlessly all heating season, and never smelled. Now that the stove is cold, and the heat and humidity are on, it has a strong sulphur smell. Any help is appreciated.

PS I have done the post season cleaning. Vacuumed out thoroughly, emptied of coal, etc.

you are most likely getting a downdraft down the chimney, is the chimney located on the exterior of the home? somehow you simply need to cap off the chimney for the summer, if masonry simply lay a plate of heavy steel over the flue, if metal, take off the cap and stuff a towel in it, simple and very effective solution.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if I can cap that chimney off somehow. The stove discharges into a larger fieldstone chimney up through the center of my house. Orginally, the chimey was for a fireplace, but has been retrofitted to handle the coal stove.

I had to cap mine off where the smokepipe went into the chimney. I used a round chimney cap from Lows and sealed it with furnace cement. A large coffee can will do the job also.

yes, ours smelled also, had to go in and clean all the flaking coating off the insides, vacuum out. Not too bad now. Anyone re-paint with BBQ black coating? or just leave the inside kinda rusty color...I didn't cap my direct vent off, so I think some outside air would back feed into the house.

Just did all the pre-maintence (oil the motors, etc..) and getting ready for winter. I did clean it out after last season too and do the basic maintenacne. Just got 2 tons while the weather is nice. probalby get 1 more ton, we had 1/2 ton left.

I thought i read somewhere on this forum about a chimney Ballon that is made just for this purpose. Maybe a Google search would show one. Just a thought.
