approx 6,000 sq feet.......ton of coal every 15 days or so
KA6
1900 sqft A-frame with ZERO insulation on the roof. Basically 2-1/2" tongue and groove with asphalt shingles on top.
Baseboard throughout.
3 zones
Aquastat temps at 180-200
DHW off of 3rd zone ala Boilermate
1 ton exactly for the first month
The first month took some tweaking and learning and im sure there was some wasted coal. I might turn back the Aquastat to 160-180, but my current settings were recommended by a local coal dealer who has a Keystoker KD-12. He mentioned that he used LESS coal with the higher settings and was burning it more efficiently.

I just counted my empty bags and so for this fall I used 57- 50* bags.If you average all the coal I bought(I have Mystery.Sherman and Superior coal) they cost be $6.82 per bag.that's $388.00 bucks so far this year.I'm

Glen,
I am going to try your aquastat settings at 180 low and 200 high and see if it increases or decreases my usage for the month of December. It seems like you would burn more coal at the higher temperature but who knows. I have been wrong many times.
Don where in upstate New York are you? I am in Willsboro which is about 60 miles south of Canada and across Lake Champlain from Vermont.

First year using a Keystoker Koker furnace with DV exhaust.
Heating an 1800 sq ft 5 yr old ranch house with Koker in the basement.
I'm at 33 bags of Blaschak rice, (1320#) for the month of November.
Being as cheeeep as I am I wish it was less but then again, I didn't burn propane!!

2000 sq ft, moderate insulation
Water temps 150 -160, based on outside temps(Reset control)
DHW off coil in boiler, 4 teenage kids so it gets well used.
1200# for the month of November, or about 40# per day.
I normally burn 10 to 12# per day to make hot water. We had some real cold nights this month where it dropped down into the teens, on those days it burns about 60# to 70# per day so all told, not too bad.

I've burned sixty-three 50 lb bags of chestnut so far this year, which works out to about 70 lbs per day.
That is heating roughly 4000 square feet with the stove in the basement, the basement is 80 degrees, the first floor 70-72, and the second floor around 60. I only use the 2nd floor if we have guests so I normally just leave the door open to the upstairs to avoid the oil burner kicking on. There was one week where it probably would have been more economical to let the stove go out but I kept burning coal rather than fire the oil boiler. Generally if I can open a window and keep the house at a reasonable temperature I will keep the stove going rather than let it go out.
