Just borrowed a 6x10 dual axle rated at 7100lbs, filled it full (7400lbs)and ran about 65 miles, electric brakes work well. it's well used has new tires, guy offered it to me for $2200.00.

New I think it sells for around $5000.00

Guess it depends on how much you would use it.

For what they cost I'd look for a old dump truck. If you had a business that might be worth it because you could have both a dump truck and trailer.

Then I would have to register and insure it.

they come in real handy......we borrow one from a friend.......quite pricey tho......if you are mechanically inclined, for the price you are better off buying an old 70's one ton dump truck......should be able to get 2-3 tons on a 350 dually chassis easilly.......we can get 2 tons on our f250 flatbed

I love mine it's 6x10 tandem axel rated at 10,000 pounds. yup hauled 5 1/2 ton Of rice home 1 trip this year. If you get one you will have alot of friends but also can make alot of $ with side jobs. I am usually pretty busy each week with mine and it doesn't get any easier drive somewhere pick up something and drive back hit the button and dump . Registration cost is nothing compared to a dump truck. If your near binghamton and need one for a trip let me know we'll work somethng out.

I ran one for years hauling fire wood and what not, very handy and way cheaper than having another truck/insurance/plates/
maint. to worry about. They do not dump real clean in that the beds are pretty low. All in all, a good move.

I have a 7X12 12 K dumper with a scissor lift. I absolutely love it. I use it for coal of course. I can "Legally" haul 8,800 lbs. But I have had 12,000 lbs of gravel on it  . This kind of weight requires a diesel to have any luck of pulling it at all.. I also use it to haul my tractor around and even to rescue a buddy whoc car was broke down. I just took the tailgate off the trailer and the car fit right in there. I can also get pretty close to 3 cord of wood on it

I didn't want an old dump truck. I have enough things to keep running. Not to mention getting it to pass inspection, tags, Insurance, etc...

I don't know how I ever got by without one...

I have a 14 foot one w/ a sissor hoist, best thing in the world. I use it for a dumpster on jobs and haul soil, dirt and anything else. It's a 2006 and I got it about a year ago for only $4,600. It was barely used for Katrina clean up and then sold to me :D I found it on craigslist about 3 hrs away in Conn, well worth the trip.

I put 2 foot high wooden wall extensions so I have about 14 cubic feet of cargo space .

I have to echo what others said about the cons of having a dump truck, the cost of insuring, registration & the hassel of inspection really kill any pros to a dump truck, especially for occasional users.
