I wish to now add 1100 gallon hot water storage.( evacuated solar to heat in late spring etc). Got the tank. Boiler to tank and return. Heating system from tank and return. How do I control the boiler to storage tank pump. If I turn on with an aquastat it will continue to run until storage is below set point! How do I tell the pump boiler is lit - start pumping, boiler is out - shut off. Got me stumped???? :?

Per usual, I'm a bit confused. Why heat this huge tank with an oil burner?

If all you want to do is have the pump run while the oil burner is running, just hook the pump to the burner wires. Burner comes on, pump comes on, burner shuts off, pump shuts off.

I don't exactly see the picture ... give us a bit more of an idea what you are trying to do.

My thoughts are, that you might need a "differential controller", typically used with solar applications.

I would think you need an aquastat on the tank or, just over ride until the tank is heated up then just use it with the present control system and insulate the heck out of the tank

Not quite got the picture of what your trying to do, but if your going to heat up water in a steel tank make sure you put an expantion tank somewhere in that circuit.
