I bought a Hyfire II and cannot wait to see how it will run. My coal-trol came with color coded pigtails yet none of the cables on the stove are color coded. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You are right:

Red - Stoker
Blue - Combustion
Yellow - Convection
Green - Igniter/not-used

If in doubt, plug the motors in to the red, yellow, and blue pigtails in whatever order you like (leave green unplugged), then run the TEST mode (press and hold Menu button for 5 seconds, until the word "FEED" appears, then tap menu button until word "TEST" appears, then tap up or down button to start the test mode). Note which motor is engaged for the STOKER display, swap the stoker motor cord to the pigtail of the motor that engaged. Continue with the CMBSTN and CNVCTN outputs similarly. The cycle will repeat until you exit the test mode (tap Menu button two times).

Reason: Got the correct color coding.

Thank you for the help. I am just hooking up the stove pipe and will hopefully be up and running in a couple of hours. I will keep you posted.

Sorry to bother but on the hyfire II there are only four cables. Two for the fans and two going to the feeder and combustion. So do these both go to blue or red?
thanks

You need to separate the combustion and stoker motors. There are some posts on here that WNY did when he converted his for the Coal-Trol, do a search on Hyfire or WNYs posts and they should turn up. In any event it requires purchase of some power cords, you might also think about installing a switch box so that you can shut one or theother stoker mechanism off since both have to be plugged into the single outlet for Combustion and Stoker motors.

Edit: I found this one that shows a pictuire of how the switch box can be installed to separate out the cables:

My hyfire is new. the coal-trol has six pigtails coming off of it.Do I need the coal trol and the control box on the stove as well. I thought the coal-trol took care of everything. The picture I saw, shows the box on the stove and the coal-trol mounted seperately.

You don't want to have the control rheostats hooked to the convection fan input on the Coal-Trol, they will not work properly with the speed controller in the Coal-Trol.

Bottom line even though they are in the pic, you don't need or want the rheostats, unless you hook them to the combustion fan so you can turn that down in the warmer weather when less combustion air is needed.

Thanks for the help. Seperated the motors and stove is going. One side is feeding more than the other.
Is this because it is dual burners or do I need some more lessions ? When I started the stove with feeder 10 they were both going fine.

How much more? Since you have a new unit I'm guessing there is no stroke adjustment so it is just in the small difference caused by tolerance buildup from the fabrication process. Not really anything to worry about unless they are dramatically different.

Do you have the min and max set per the factory recommended starting point. You may have to tweak that but has nothing to do with uneven feed rates on the two burners.

Enjoy the warmth. :)

Yes, you need to Y the plugs together, I built a separate switch box for the Stokers and Combustion Blowers, so I can control each separately. But still have them plugged into the CoalTrol.

The stokers/burn may vary a bit from side to side, it just depends on the stokers. Not sure if the factory ones with CoalTrol have any adjustments on the feeder?

Mine had the old Adjustment knobs and I can fine tune the feed to match both sides.

Check the back of the Stoker Plate, might be a screw at the end to adjust, but with the CoalTrol factory, they may have removed it? both should be adjusted to MAX (IN) and let the coal trol maintain the MIN/MAX of the fire.

Min/Max won't affect the stokers if they are out of adjustment. Mine are a little off, maybe 1/2"-1", once burns back a bit farther then the other, but I don't worry about it.
