i just got done instaling a alaska stoker and a power venter. in the directions for the power venter it says to plug the power venter right into the wall. but as soon as I plug it in it starts running. is this right ? there are no other plugs or wires on the power venter. does it ever shut off?

Nope, Runs 24/7

That is what a power vent is for, to exhaust the gases from the stove, as long as the stove is running, so is the power vent....

ok thank you for the quick reply....now if I may ask another question. there is a adjustment on the side of the power venter that you cannot get to once it is hooked up and in the wall.i am guessing it is a damper? where should it be? the directions suck and say nothing about it there is not even a pic of it in the directions....

Is it a Field Controls Power venter? They have stuff online.

Also, do you have your Baro Damper inline that will also need to be adjusted.

Here another thread on it.

Think of a power venter as an electric chimney, You can't 'turn off' a chimney, and you certainly wouldn't want to.. So the Power Vent is the same.. if this is a Power Vent that is mounted on the outside wall of the house and is connected to the stove with pipe, you should have a barometric damper between the stove and the Power Vent.

yea I just figured that out and I really screwed myself on that one. and I only have myself to blame on that one. I was only able to mount the power venter in 1 place due to windows. and the way the stove sits the stove pipe runs on abit of an angle and from what I have read about baro dampers are that they have to sit level....  ....

Scarecrow,

It doesn't matter if your pipe is inclined, vertical, or horizontal, what matters is that the swing pins on the baro are level. Most baro's are attached to a "T" type pipe which allows you to rotate that baro to achieve level status. The important aspect is that the face of the baro is plumb. Then you just rotate the baro to reach the level status across the pins.

You can rip that manual damper out of the PV, it serves no purpose except to collect fly ash.

As already stated you can mount your baro in an inclined pipe just level the pins that it pivots on. Also make sure you use a rheostat to control the PV, you will waste electricity and be pulling air out tof the room through the baro at full speed.

As Trimmer said make sure you hook up the WMO-1 so that the stove will shut off in the event of a PV malfunction. Make sure you have CO detectors outside living areas, and one near the stove. Safety, safety, safety. :)
