Gosh, for once it's warmer in Maine that the rest of the world? 25 here & dead calm wind. They're predicting that's going to change soon. You guys just have to share your cold & wind, don't you!
It is 14* here in my neck of the woods in western Pa. We had a high of 20 here today and I have burned 58 pounds of coal since last night around 7:00. A little better than I had expected. I was expecting about 70 pounds.
Here in wilds of Hastings County Ontario, it's currently -15C(5F), supposed to hit -20C(-4F) before morning. We have about 5" of snow on the ground.
It's 24C(75F) inside, Harman Mk 2, door glass sealed and 3/4 turn on ash door draft. 320F inside stove, and 180F in the stack 1 foot above the stove. It has a 50lb load of Kimmel nut.
With the current wind conditions, the baro is bouncing like crazy, but is maintaining a 0.05 draw.
My Valkyrie is tucked away, it probably won't see the road now till the end of March. I'm forced to drive a four wheeled cage till then.
Stay warm, and dry.

6.8 degrees here at 8pm, high today was 16. Tomorrow should be a high of about 10, lows will be below zero I bet. Windchill today was fierce and so was the snow, I took the snowmobile out for a ride through some fields today and I couldn't feel my face after about 10 minutes. The snow pack is between 12 and 20" up on the hill, the drifts on top of the scrub brush bushes are incredible.I used a little more coal than usual, the ash bucket was full to the top when I checked it and usually it's 3/4 full. I'll have to give the animals an extra helping of corn tonight to keep them warm.

High of 32 degrees today, 21 degrees now and falling at 0.5 degree per hour. 10 mph winds, with gusts in the high teens. House a comfortable 73. 30 miles west of Baltimore. I'll be burning about 125-150 lbs tonight.

18 here now. I was in the cellar and saw the baro hit the full open stop a few times on the stoker. Never saw that happen before. Still holding 70.7 on the 2nd floor, but I can feel the cold air washing off the wall behind my desk.

17 degrees and windy here now at 9:15 PM. Baro has been wide open all day and house has been toasty. This cold snap has really awakened the old Alaska. Been running the same settings on the stove for the past three days and it kept the living room (right above the stove, which is in the basement) at approx. 75 degrees. I woke up this morning sweating, wondering what was going on. Checked the temp in the living room - 82 degrees! That wind and cold really had the stove stoking. Had to turn the stove down and turn off the fans I have for air dist. to cool things down a bit. 76 degrees in the LR now.
well it is now zero in the mohawk valley. early too its only 9:32 pm the fresh load is burning good now.the stove will be doing its thing from now until morning, shes a real trooper I tell ya!! good night to all... see what happens in the morning.

It's single digits here and dropping, the baro is flapping like a bird. I think if I listen carefully I can hear the coal rustling in the hopper, each nugget fighting to be the next in line to give the ultimate sacrifice in the battle with the cold. I think a salute might be in order...Devil505 wrote:God help us.......Don't you just love it!!!markviii wrote:Down to 7 degrees, and the wind is HOWLING. We are sick twisted freaks living up here aren't we? My buddy in Orlando thinks I've Iost my mind living up here while he sits by his pool drinking a tall cold one. I just tell him he's a weeny, real men fight the elements :box:

We might be taking this coal burning thing a little too far.I think if I listen carefully I can hear the coal rustling in the hopper, each nugget fighting to be the next in line to give the ultimate sacrifice in the battle with the cold.
I have to go check the stoker...I think I just heard some arguing.
