I do get a lot of condesation if I use wet coal, in fact so much that when I open the lid water runs off the lid back into the coal. thats why I have a pertty shingled coal bin now. I was told with my unit the sealed hopper will increase the likelyhood of having condensation. Hope it helps a little, just my experience with a sealed hopper.

I have the same prob with my DVC. I know my coal is wet from the bin (working on a fix) after loading the hopper at night, the next morning, water is literally pouring off the hopper lid when I open it. This can not be good I suspect.

Mossy:

Thanks for the offer. I really do want one permanently installed.

To ask a really stupid question - how do you get an over-the-fire reading?

Horace,
On my stove there is a little plug to remove on the front door.
If you don't have a 'plug', some time you're down you could drill and tap a hole. (put a small bolt in it.)
