It's a pain in the neck for noobs, and people probably often find this forum through a coal related emergency, a broken stoker for instance. One forum... Well, the only other forum I attend regularly, set up their registration so that there are only three days a month that noobs can register. We still had trouble with banned sock puppets showing up, so the administrator just picks three days a quarter randomly and current members can sponsor a noob. I'm certain that there will be a huge fall off in noobs, which is bad, but there are no more sock puppets or spammers.
