ok, So the KA-4 is plumbed in. Controls should be wired this weekend.
I need to break an 8" hole in the side of the chimney for the KA-4.
I think I can just use a drill to drill smalls holes in the concrete all the way around and then chisel that out, but how can I bust through the clay lining with shattering it?
Thanks,
Jeremy

I used an air die grinder and diamond wheel for old terra cotta pipe, and I bet that would work for this. If you don't have the air compressor, i'd get an electric grinder with a diamond cutting wheel.

What size is the tile your trying to get into?
Even if your isnt perfect as long as you can get your thimble inside of it they make some excellent refactory cements that will seal it up and make a safe fire and leak proof install.
If you figure out how to get a hole thru that sucker let us know....I remember busting a lot of them just trying to punch a hole for an outside cleanout door. I think I did the best with a masonary wheel but it took a bunch of them.
That stuff is harder than a honeymoon----

Unless you want to spend a few hundred bucks on an 8" diamond drill it seems like drill lot's of little holes is the way to go.
Or... do as I did for my foundation... hire a concrete core company. For $100 they'll make a perfect hole in about 15 min.
