Do you just have one on the oil burner? Is there another on the coal boiler?

No I only have the one on the oil burner. I noticed in the installation instructions that there was an option to add an second one. My plumber didn't seem to think it was necessary.

Does the circ run only when the house is calling for heat ? If this is the case that may be why the coal boiler over heated. If the circ was on 24/7 will the water will loop between the boilers? You coal boiler only holds 17.9 gals. of water. If the circ shuts off when the house is not calling for heat it wouldnt take long to over heat the coal boiler. I tried it with mine to simulate a power loss. The temp shot up from 170 to 230 quick.

When the water is heating up from cold the circ is set to comes on at 150*, but actually doesn't come on until 160* due to the dif in the aquastat. The circ is set to go off at 135*. So if the water temp never hits 135* than the circ will never turn off. The house thermostat is set at 72*. Yes the coal boiler does hold 17.9 gals, but I don't know what the oil burner holds. I doubt very much.

slabadie, tell me about your blower. Why is it not being used? Does it run?

The reason I am not using the blower is:
1. Initially the boiler ran to hot
2. Then I had trouble starting a fire because the blower would cool off the wood embers before I could get the coal started
3. The coal fire wouldn't last, would go out or go out after several hours
4. All this while adjusting the fan flap.

I have to say the I have a supurb draft. Before removing the fan I turned it off and placed a tissue by its vent. The tissue got sucked up in the fan and it wasn't running.

Greg, I know that you are pushing for me to re-connect the fan, but I really don't think I need it. I quite honestly I lost confidence in it's use.
