Thanks!

I do have 2 - CO detectors/ smoke dectors- one right above the stove and the other is on the upstairs hallway- I also have 3 hard wired smoke detectors and 1 other battery powered- the Co detectors are new with new batteries and the smoke alarms are same.

I have been experimenting all day today ( another day off spent on this) with a 12"x12" 8ft duct I made out of 1/2" blue foam......... I see what you mean about getting the air to the ground so it gets through the hot air.

At this point I really think the problem is the block wall that divides my basement the 1/3 that has the stove is always at least 10-20 degrees warmer that the 2/3 that does not. I am wondering if this wall makes it hard for the cool air to return through the 36 in door way infront of the stove.

since it is about 24 degrees out right now things are a bit warmer than when it was 5 degrees. I will keep searching the posts and try and come up with a plan.

Thanks again- gotta run , the family is ice fishing in the living room. Merry Christmas to all!

Andy

WE HAVE HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes , that is right- I followed all the great advice here and by trial and error, going room to room and trying out a cold air return I found 2 places that I have kept them in place that really seem to do the trick!

MY STOVE IS NOW ON LOW and I have 62 upstairs- yesterday I had 67 on medium and it was about 27 outside! I could not get it above 60 on max for the 1st week.......... I was going through coal like a mad man and thought this whole thing was a bust!

Things are alot better and I have all those who replied to thank- THIS SITE IS A GREAT WAY FOR A ROOKIE TO FIGURE THIS ALL OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS FOR THE MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! HOPE YOURS IS THE SAME!

Congratulations!!
Now you can spend the Happy Holidays relaxing. It is just trial and error since no two homes are built the same. In a few weeks you will have everything balance with an even temperature.

Take some time off and enjoy the warmth,

BOB
