I fill out the name of the person I am sending the PM to and then I type in the subject matter and finally send it by pressing the submit button . The only thing that happens is the space where I enter the recipients name CLEARS itself. I know that the PM isn't making it thru. I e-mailed one guy and he told me nothing is getting thru from the forum.
No error message

When composing a new PM once you type in the name you have to click the "Add" button. I've been meaning to adjust the layout and make it a little easier to understand. Once you do that the persons name will appear in the "To:" field

This picture is what it looks like after hitting the "Add" button.

If you just type a name into the text field and hit the submit button without hitting the "Add" button it will bring you back to the compose panel but it will now have a preview and then members name added . Hitting submit at this point will send the PM.

The other possibility is that the member has checked off the ability for people to send them PM's. I'm not sure what kind of error that throws.

While on the topic here's some additional tips and information.
  • If you have someone that you send a lot of PM's to you can add them to your "friends list", on the lower left of the PM panel they will appear with a "Add" button next to them. This way you can just add them with one click.
  • When replying to a PM they are automatically added into the "To:" field.
  • If the message when originally sent was sent to two or more people when you reply it the "To:" filed will contain both the person that originally sent it and the other recipients. You can remove peopl by clicking the X next to the name.
  • Under each persons name is PM link on posts, this will also automatically add them to the "To:" field.
  • The PM folders contain a "Outbox" and "Sent" messages boxes. The "outbox" contains messages that have not been loaded into the recipients "Inbox" yet. The "Sent" box contains messages that have been loaded into the recipients box but it does not necessarily mean they have been read by the recipient.

Also note there is page for creating custom boxes. rules etc. quite similar to a regular email client. :D

Richard, I am also having a problem sending pm's. Lately I have been using the reply button and creating a reply then I press the submit button. It then brings it up for preview. I submit again and it tells me that it has been sent successfully. I then return to pm page to see it stuck in the "outbox" and never appearing in the "sent" messages. Recipients are not getting my pms.

The "Outbox" is messages that you still have, the list hasn't been downloaded by the recipient yet. FYI you can edit or even delete these messages. I'm not sure if the standard time limit of 24 hours applies for this but I don't think so. If you do delete a message the recipient will still get an alert for a messsage but when they go to read it will give a error that it was deleted by the sender.

The "Sentbox" is messages that someone has received but it doesn't necessarily mean they have read it.

There's a very extensive overview of all the control panel options that I put together here:
