Hi All: First post to this board. I have an EFM stoker and would like a stove for upstairs that will allow me to burn my rice coal should we have a power outage. We're not looking to heat the whole house, but want a long burn with each fill and of course not need electric for normal operation. Glass front would be nice!

There are not any hand feed stoves [no electricity needed] that burn rice or buckwheat coal.. The coal is too small and would fall through any form of shaker grate..
Why not look into a battery/inverter backup for your efm?? for the money invested in another stove, you could have a backup generator and an auto-switching circuit box.

Most stove mfr. have "Hand Fired" stoves that do not require electricity, but only burn the larger Nut or Pea size coal, it needs the air/draft thru the coal to burn correctly, the rice and buckwheat are too small and not enough air gets thru, that is why stokers have the combustion blower, to force the air thru the coal.
