There was some discussion about an automatic ash system that some apartment buildings used.

Doug~ Don't sweat the ashes too much. When I was assigned as a pipefitter's helper in the 60's he used to yell at me all the time.It went something like this while we were lugging the broken pieces of cast boiler sections up the steps. "Grunt kid Grunt,It makes the pull easier". I am quite certain that not all of what he said could be called Grunting [and certainly cannot be repeated here] but all these years later I can recall many of his gruntintgs with a real smile. He taught me that a certain bond is developed when an old man and a young kid work at their respective limits of physical endurance. Wherever you are Ted, Thanks for the Grunt lessons!!! Give it a try,it truly does make it more fun. [no howling as Ted still holds the patent on the grunt-howl] Merry Christmas to All. Regards, Mike

I added a small addition to my home last year that resulted in a new basement entrance and a set of 6 concrete stairs. I'm going to try the grunting next time I'm carrying that ash tub up those #%*@ stairs. Everytime I haul another stove in my truck, I always remember the last great advice you gave me which was, "If it can happen, it will!"

- Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Alaska 140
Only 2 weeks into a brand new Alaska 140 and I've found a use for the waste coal ash.
I sprinkle it around at the end of the driveway. Aides in snow/ice traction and the dark color helps melt the snow.

I feed my coal to my Keystoker 150 in the basement central furnace down a 4 inch schedule 40 plastic pipe with an attached homemade vibrator to help the coal along. Works beautifully and no carrying 7 ton of coal down the stairs each season. Now for the ashes. I have found that carrying out a third of a bushel is easier than a full bushel but still not an enjoyable experience. I am presently designing a system to literally blow those ashes out of the basement through a 3 inch pipe using my 10 hp leaf blower. No, I am not making this up. I am getting old and want to automate this system as much as possible. Once I blow them into a pile in my woods I can deal with them in the spring. Hopefully, this is my last winter carrying ashes. I am especially pleased with the Keystoker 150 forced air system. Works like a charm heating approximately 4000 sq ft. with
about 15 minutes attention each day. Anyone out there tried automating ash removal?

If you're looking for an ash removal system, why not have some fun doing it.
Build an air cannon and shoot them into the woods.
They do it every year in Delaware and across the country.

karl59062,
Member McKoker has installed a leafblower vacuum system to remove the ash painlessly from his basement. I've tried it and it works well.
