Ever since I was a kid I have always looked at the test pilot-Astronauts as real life heroes. Men like John Glenn & Neal Armstrong who can knowingly face death for a greater purpose are the real heroes to me.( I'm not much into sport stars or movie actors as heroes...never have been).
I highly recommend the Tom Wolfe book "The Right Stuff" to turn us all into hero worshipers! (not the movie.....the book)

Who do you consider a real life hero, if anyone?

Devil,

Thought you would be more of a Chuck Yeager guy.
With balls as big as his you wonder how he ever got in the cockpit.

Here is the definition. We over use the term these days, calling athletes and common folk heroes, when in reality, a hero is a very uncommon person.

1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.
2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child.

The Right Stuff. Fantastic book. Never saw the movie becuase the book was so good I couldn't imagine the movie being btter. Yeager was the man!
