Here are a few pictures of my installation in October, 08. I partitioned my garage and built a 7.5 ton capacity coal bin for my AA130. I have been running the boiler since 10/20/08 and have burned 2.5 tons, heating a 3500 sq. foot house and 200 sq. foot non-insulated greenhouse. Am using Superior pea coal and dumping 1 bushel of ashes every 1.5 - 2 days. Temperatures have been ranging between -2 deg to +30 except in the warm spell in October.

I am using an 8 inch Selkirk stainless pipe through the garage roof; boiler to top of chimney is approximately 21 feet. Idle draft is .3 WC. Run is .4 - .5 WC using an 8" RC damper. Triple aquastat is high 180, low 150, 10 degree diff. Anthrastat is 140 and 2 clicks on the shaker. So far everything is running good; many thanks to MikeandGerry who took the time to run us through the installation. This forum has been a wealth of information and has enabled us to get this new system up and running very easily. Since our installation, 2 of my neighbors have installed boilers of their own.

nice pics!!!

Could I see some pics of the greenhouse? We're doing an addition and a greenhouse is at the top of our list...

also, how do you heat the greenhouse? Radiant? Blower?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Looks great. Thats some flue pipe....... I'm using a little more coal than that with a new AA130 install in central PA. When it's cold out I need to empty the pan every day heating our 3400sq/ft. 127 yr. old house. We've been enjoying the inexpensive heat though, keeping the house around 70-73 degrees. I've got the shaker on 3 clicks, anthrastat on 140. Maybe I'll try 2 clicks for a while. Congratulations.

Excellent! We have very similar AA130 setups and both burning Superior Pea. You started burning one day before myself. I'm about the same, but 3 clicks. I haven't used as much coal, but not heating as much area. I found with two click it uses the same coal, makes the same heat. just runs a bit longer. Thanks for the pics!

These posts are great! I just found this website recently... wish I would've come across it three months ago.

This past summer I purchased an AA130 that was abandoned in service (still connected to the overall heating system). It was in really rough shape and not well cared for. After some (a lot) of TLC, it is back to life. In fact I just put it online this evening to take over for a 20+ year old oil furnace that's been killing the pocket book ;-)

I love this machine. The restoration has been a great deal of fun. The design of this boiler is fascinating yet simple!

I am learning from all of you how to set-up the operation of the unit. I struggled a little due to the old original controls and very little documentation describing their operation. I have picked up a few tid-bits reading the various posts here. Thanks! One hint I plan to use is to update the controls to the latest AA uses on these units.

I will see if I can successfully post a couple picks from the project.

Stan has a really nice clean installation and a great coal bin. It holds seven or eight tons, one ton for each of those planks you see in the picture, if I remember correctly. I am also very envious of that coal bunker and the 24 tons of superior coal in his back yard! Oh how I wish I had the room!

It was a pleasure to view Stan's install and to host Stan and his friends for a conflab or two over my AA130 installation. I learned quite a bit from Stan. He's highly knowledgeable in many fields and a gentleman to boot.

Congratulations on another job well done, Stan.
