Can anyone give me a "thumb's eye view" on what oil/coal stoker boilers are going for in Central Pennsylvania right now, installed?

I don't need specifics, just a range.

Mom has a big old Victorian with an old boiler, and I'd really like to get the system back to coal, but with the convenience of oil, as a back up, as well.

Be looking at maybe a 200,000 BTU unit.

Also, what's bagged rice coal going for by the ton right now?

I've really missed the a nice coal fire since moving away from Central Pennsylvania. Growing up many friends families had coal stoves. If I ever get back up there, first thing I do is buy a stove and a couple of tons of anthracite.

What are you using now? Why not just parallel a new boiler, so you still have the current system as a backup, instead of a duel fuel which may be more expensive. A straight Coal boiler would probably be better.

200,000 BTU, wow. A new one will probably run you $4000-$10,000+. Depending on how close you are to the breakers, it varies per ton or bagged. I have seen people on here around $160-250/ton.

It's a 1959ish Burnham Jubilee that my Father and Grandfather installed.

The house is big. REALLY big. I doubt that the current boiler is 200,000 BTU, but I chose that as an upper limit guess.

Unfortunately, installing the systems in parallel is really not an option due to where the current boiler is located/piped and the overall layout of the basement.

If I were living up there, it wouldn't be a problem. New boiler would go in in the spring, no oil back up needed. I'd be there to take care of it for Mom. But, that's not an option right now.

Thanks for your input!

Ah, gotcha. There are some other discussions on here about "DUAL FUEL" boilers, I beleive Keystoker and a couple others make them.

Here one thread.
