I have a question about hooking up a power vent to an alaska stoker stove. I would like to order the power vent online. From what I understand, the SWG powervent, which Alaska uses, is wired into the stove sence pressure to prevent problems if powervent should die (so smoke doesn't flow back into house). That is at least what an Alaska dealer told me. She said that the hookup is pretty easy.

Those of you that use a Power Vent with Alaska, how is it connected. Is there a hard wire into the stove? Has anyone actually connected it themselves?

Thanks for your help.

I have connected a Power Venter to my Alaska Stoker with the help of a friend. I do not have a wire connecting the Power Venter to the stove. The stove has a fume switch connected and if the Power Venter is not functioning correctly, room air will not be drawn through the fume switch. The fume switch will then cut power to the stove.

I have been running this set up for 3 years and occassionally, once or twice a season, if there is a very strong wind the fume switch will trip and shut down the stove, so it does work.

Hope this helps.
