Does anyone use one of these types of self-contained inverters?

Would it be adequate to run my Channing III for a few hours in case of an outage?

I'd love to power up appropriately with a generator but the budget is balking and we are due some weather today so I'm thinking of an impulse purchase.

They should have a power rating on them that tells you the amount of 'juice' avaliable.

Go to ebay and buy a used APC SmartUPS 1400 or larger. New batteries are well under $100 and easy to replace. You'll have $150 or so invested and end up with a very robust unit that will power many stokers for 8 hours or more (if you turn off the convection fans)

With the UPS, I assume it switches over immediately in the event of the power going out?

I doubt you would get a few hours, you might, But All depends on your power requirements for the stove. If you don't run the convection blower, and just the stoker and combustion, maybe 2 hours. YOu can get a watt meter (Kill-o-watt) and actually measure the power consumption of your stove.

I have a small UPS for my Hyfire and it only lasts about 15-20 mins with the 2 small internal batteries. I have 2 larger car batteries as standby until I can get my generator online. (I just got my transfer switch box and need to wire an outside plug).

YES, the inverters or UPS auto switch when there is NO power.

Do a search on here for UPS or Power Inverters, there are numerous threads on what people are using to power their stoves in case of a power outage. (no comments from the hand fired guys!! :) just kidding.)

Also, you need to make sure it has a good SINE wave output, otherwise, you could damage your motors.
