So what about local politicians? Township supervisors and city councilmen often pass local laws/ordinances that greatly affect us. Most times it is not a U.S. Congressman who takes property through imminent domain.

State legislators have a lot to do with funding for public schools but the school board decides how the money gets spent. In my area, school taxes is of great concern. We have awe-inspiring facilities for our children to go to school, however people are struggling to pay the taxes.
As I`ve been reading thru a lot of these post I can`t help but wonder what a lot of people are still doing in this country. Everyone is still free to leave,
I'm not asking for anything more than for people... all people... to act with integrity, set aside greed, and contribute to society. And I'm not going anywhere. This is the greatest country in the world. People have been trying to screw it up for a very long time. These people act in their own interest not in the intrest of freedom, which is the solution to the human condition. If these conversations end... while we wait and see if everything will work out... we will be sold down the river and soon will look just like France.

Parle voo france?

I agree, however we are looking more and more like Mexico. Middle class is disappearing. The middle class is what makes this country great. Obama is clearly more sympathetic to the middle class.

I guess I need to have my prescription checked. I don't see that "clearly" at all. Have you read his "Global Poverty Relief Act"? That's not the middle class he's worried about....

If we are to end up like France, you'll need another socialized program for car fire insurance.

The Muslim "youths" have been torching them continually since setting the record of 1147 cars in 2005.

If you buy that then do you want to move to Arizona? I've got this great piece of land up near the Grand Canyon... great view of the ocean...

I've made it a rule that everything that comes out of the mouth of a politician is a lie... Obama is not different.

Once I see them act on something they've talked about only then do they get any credit from me.

Lincoln respected the law and his primary responsibility was preserving the union. It was his presidential duty. Lincoln wrangled with emancipation because it was a violation of the Constitution, which recognized slave chattel. He made it clear that if faced with a choice between ending slavery and perserving the union, he would choose the latter. Fortunately he was able to do both but not without war.

So given that Lincoln was a great president for his unpopular actions to save the union, why is it that GWB cannot achieve an honorable mention by the left as a leader? He too defended the nation in difficult times in spite of contrary popular opinion.

I think GWB is a good man. And he did what he thought was right. Now we need change.

What law required Lincoln to "save the Union"?

Every president takes an oath to "defend the Constitution" and Lincoln made Bush look like a piker.

Every state voluntarily joined the union, and Lincoln made sure no state could voluntarily withdraw. Who gave him that power?

Really? The people gave him the power to unilaterally repeal the tenth amendment and most of the first and several sections of the fifth?

I thought GWB overstepped his power as CIC. I guess Lincoln got that beat.
