Can Obama Pull It Off
I just watched President Elect Obama's speech on what needs to be done. I agree on most of his points especially that this is a dire time calling for a new attitude towards government. However I think Congress is like a drug addict who can't give up pork and will commit selfdestruction to satisfy thier jones.

Well we know he's going to push a huge stimulus package almost immediatley. I hope he doesn't let it get loaded up with pork/ear marks like the bailout package did.
I would suggest that he pull all of our troops out of Iraq the day after he is sworn in & use the 12 billion per month right here creating jobs & fixing this country's infrastructure. Then, freeze the billions the Iraqis have been salting away in New York banks (while WE pay for their rebuilding) & seize it for repayment of our war expenses.

That would be a nice start Devil, but remember, the populace didn't ask us to come in and bomb the hell out of them and destabilize their country to get at Saddam. Remember the WMD theory? The only reason we are rebuilding is because we want positive relations with Iraq so we have access to their oil and to deter any terrorist activity (like that idea worked). Kind of a Marshall Plan for the new century, except we are doing a lousy job because we have outsourced everything to Halliburton-type companies that are raping the system so they can prop up their balance sheets. It has become the American way I guess. We already don't take oil from Iran and reducing another option for oil would kind of be like Hungary looking for natural gas now that Russia has shut them down and they get 100% of their fuel from one source.Devil505 wrote:I would suggest that he pull all of our troops out of Iraq the day after he is sworn in & use the 12 billion per month right here creating jobs & fixing this country's infrastructure. U.S. foreign policy is a Gordian Knot of "F" ups. I'm not fan of Obama, but I feel bad for him if he TRULY wants to fix things.
I don't feel THAT bad, because I don't think he has any intention of trying to fix anything, not in the sense that most Americans believe he will.

I hear you kootch........ but I would just have Obama broadcast the following message to the Iraqis:kootch88 wrote:That would be a nice start Devil, but remember, the populace didn't ask us to come in and bomb the hell out of them and destabilize their country to get at Saddam. "Oops!!!...Sorry about that!" (& THEN leave!......Better? )
It seems to me like going into Iraq (and I saw the destruction on 9/11 from Washington Rock overlook in Bound Brook, NJ) was kind of like the biggest kid in the schoolyard gets hit in the back of the head with a rock, and then beats up the kid that looks like he's guilty. Things haven't been the same since that day.
My previous economic stimulus check went directly into my gas tank. A $500 tax credit for me now would be meaningless. I still see people's eyes glaze over when the leader is mentioned. Yes We Can is already looking like No We Can't........
"Mr. Panetta, Mr. Panetta we've captured Bin Laden!!!"
"Did you read him his Miranda rights?"
"No, there was no time...."
"Sorry, you'll have to let him go, and give him a cookie..."

If anyone is putting all their hope in a Government solution then prepare for a massive boat load of failure.
I think he'll succeed because he's not afraid to get the smartest people in the country to work on the solution to our problems, not just people who attend the right church, donate to his campaign or belonged to the right fraternity.
The thing about the economy is it is us and how we feel. The Gov can only do so much. So, counting on the Gov to fix we
will be let down. They can tweak this or that, but ultimately it comes down to us. So I ask again, how do you feel Because
that ans is ultimately more important than anything any gov can do.

Where's the evidence of that? Everyone around this guy is suspect. Even his plan is to keep printing more money. Is he going to get the Fed to raise interest rates? No.Devil505 wrote:I think he'll succeed because he's not afraid to get the smartest people in the country to work on the solution to our problems, not just people who attend the right church, donate to his campaign or belonged to the right fraternity.
He himself said that the deficit wasn't his immediate concern.
If anyone is interested, CNN will be playing a movie called IOUSA. I was made by David Walker, former head of the Government Accountability Office.
It basically lays out how screwed we are.CNN/U.S. will air the broadcast premiere of the acclaimed documentary I.O.U.S.A. on on Saturday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. EST and on Sunday, January 11 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

Remind us again who is in charge of the House Financial Services Committee, his party affiliation and his sexual orientation.hugg wrote:Give the guy a chance. Bush and the toe tapping republicans put us in this position. Now we need to get our *censored* together. I like the guy.
Frank is a piece of work. Just listen to him talk. He reminds me of a cartoon character. At least he admits it. The republicans claim they are religious christians then go toe tapping or worse like the child *censored* guys. I am registered republican and I am sick of their *censored*......
