What's the price for 1 ton of Blaschak in your area? 2008-09

$230/ton, delivered, Lewistown, PA.

250$ a ton plus a delivery charge on bulk nut and I think it is a 3% or 4% solid fuel tax to Orleans county N.Y.

ok so connecting the dots.....we are seeing low 200's for PA pick up and just over 300 for delivery to the northeast for rice bagged Blaschak

that makes for a 24 ton truck haul charge of 75 to 100 per ton charge of 1800 to 2400...that seems high to me....i had been quoted a bulk 24 ton load delivery charge from PA to s nh of 800

so either the PA vendor is really low profit margined or the New England guys would seem a bit higher......

so the variables need to be fleshed out:

are there unseen tax charges for the New England guys? or truckers? are they already factoring in a delivery to homes? other factors?

Blaschak only bags 40lb bags who is bagging your coal

I buy my coal currently from Lutz coal, I guess they bag it themselves?? The bags are always for differnent things like feed and such, they don't actually say Blaschak.

Bulk delivery of nut - two tons or more - in town delivery - Easton, Maine - Center Farms Coal - last I had delivered in October - $290.00 per ton.

Rice is about 285 per ton bagged.

If you want it delivered it is 25-30 dollars per ton. Less if you can tag on with another delivery.

By the way, I would not buy Blaschak again. The coal is very wet and contains a lot of large to medium rocks. The coal I am now using was 250 per ton in early 2008. The wetness causes my stove hopper to rust and has caused the auger to jam with coal dust slurry. I have also had to dig numerous rocks out of my auger after it jammed.

When I was living in Berks county PA I bought Reading Pea coal for my Surdiac stove. No problems at all with quality or price. Delivery was free if you bought at least 1-2 tons loose. Now that I am in NY the coal costs about 30% more and is poorer quality. Of course my current stove is much more sensitive to coal quality as it is an auger feed and not a gravity feed like before.

wlape3 - Was your Blaschak bagged? I burned about 3 tons of bagged Blaschak pea coal last year and I am up to about 4 tons of nut coal this year. I had a problem with some wet coal but thought this had more to do with the dealer storing it outside where the water off the roof ran right onto the pallet. It was late winter and we had to hammer the bags out of the ice. I have never found a rock using bagged Blaschak. I was wondering if their loose coal might not get the same level of quality control. Jan 5 I got 3 tons of nut from Swantak's in Oneonta NY for $275 a ton delivered. No tax at all on it in our area!

Is that for bulk pickup or for Blaschak bagged rice?

Last year Cranston Coal was over $7 per 40lb bag of blaschak picked up! It came out to over $375/ton pickup up

Baldeagle, Where near Pittsburgh did you get the coal? I didn`t know of any down that way except for bit coal.

I get mine in Honesdale, PA., about 40 miles one way.

Think it was $209/ton for pick up and I got 2.5 tons of real nice nut for $520.

Not a gripe but they use a front end loader and when I go next time I will ask them to take off the top rather then scrape in from the bottom because I did get allot of fines in the laod he put in my trailer.

I have three bins and when I get near the bottom I shovel the fines into 5 gallon pails and give it to a buddy who uses rice. So far I have 3 buckets full from the trailer load but the load he put in the truck was much cleaner.

I wonder if you guys up in NH and Maine could hire a trucker to come down to the nearest breaker in Pa. and get a full load to haul back. Don't know if this is legal or not but it seems you could all chip in and pay the trucker his fee and still be saving some bucks.

Better yet would be to hire a local trucker from here and send him back loaded with lobsters!

wlape3 ..i read your post w interest..the wetness of the bagged Blaschak is for purposes of keeping dust down...which i appreciate.

You also mentioned rocks...i have not seen rocks and i used about 10 ton last year..BUT this year i did get a hopper fire when a large piece of coal...(actually a rock surrounded by coal, about 4 inches long and two by two for depth and width) caused a hopper fire, melting the paddles and rod that push the pusher bar in my A-250....it was a 60 dollar do it yourself repair..i use these furnaces in my greenhouse....and this alone is the reason i have not brought a coal furnace inside my house.

Having said all of that....keeping my fuel purchases inside this country means a lot to me, so i will be sticking w it
