Surdiac Temp Knob Calibration??

Surdiac Temp Knob Calibration??

PostBy: YeaForCoal On: Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:40 am

Hello!

I bought a Surdiac 713 coal stove and was wondering how one would calibrate the temperature knob?

Also what temps should I be aware of and check? Where should I put my temp guage?

Any ideas on setting the barometric damper without "fancy" equiptment?

Temp should be taken on the stove itself, Pipe Before and after the Baro.

No way to set the baro WITHOUT a draft gauge, at least correctly for maximum draft.

I am currently running a surdiac 513D. As far as a calibration to the temp knob, not sure. I have experimented with mine, and have found that if I run between 3 and 4, it keeps the house at a vey comfortable 72, (outside temp 20-30). I run it a little harder when the temps drop below that.

Hope that helps,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce. What I meant by calibration is that the cover was taken off and the rod was moved, so the knob setting (0-10) would not be correct anymore. How do I fix this?

that I really don't know. Looking at mine, the controll knob goes to the damper, and the only way I could think of fixing (calibrating) it is if the stove were off, and you manually closed it and put the knob at 0.

I have a Surdiac Gotha and run mine around 3. I couldn't imagine calibrating it because it's very "sloppy" - there is a lot of play.
I have a magnetic thermometer on the screen over the front glass and it stays about 275 f all the time. Been running it this way since October, only had to clean it out once so far. (this is my first season with it)

Are you running the hopper on the high level or the lower level?

Thanks guys, but I have already cleaaned and wire brushed this. I used oil and goo gone too. It 's still sticking. I know I need a new one, and it'll cost 30.00 bucks. I don't want to shut down the stove. selfish,? yes..... practical? maybe not. I don't have any oil to suppliment the heat. been using coal for the last 3 years. 2 years with no oil. Love that. maybe I can use pressurized air to clean out the holes and then oil?
