New Coal Trol Up and Running on My Alaska Channing III
Just purchased a coal trol for my Alaska channing III been running now for about 2 weeks and we love it. This product is the real deal, temp. is set at 72 during the day and 70 at night. Installation was a breeze, in fact the stove never went out when I unpluged everything to install the module and hooked eveything back up.( about 20 minutes ) My max is at 50 and min is at 7 with the stove in the basement and two heat runs going to the 1st floor. Projecting to burn about 4 tons this year depending on this recent cold snap hitting PA this week. To the guys at Automation Correct, great service, fast delivery, and so far great product !!! I recommend a coal trol to those out there still playing with the dial , its a lot less headache setting a thermostat than guessing a number on the dial and still waking up to a cold house !!!
I second that!!!new joe wrote:To the guys at Automation Correct, great service, fast delivery, and so far great product !!! I'm a complete newbie and just purchased a new Channing III based on the recommedations of a co-worker that just put one in a few weeks ago. Several other co-workers have hand-bombers, and they are the ones that got me interested in switching to coal from natural gas.
I'm very interested in a Coal trol. It looks like the 'cats meow' for dealing with outside temperature swings and maintaining a near constant temperature in the house. I'm curious, however, as to which Coal trol to use. Which model did you install and why that model instead of the others?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

I'd call Neil at Coal-trol, 315-299-3589 http://www.automationcorrect.com and he will guide you to the perfect Coal-trol for your application. That's what I did and I'm very glad I did. Their technical support and service to their customers before, during and after the purchase of your Coal-trol is second to none. They truly are a great company to deal with!!! DOUG

I have been adjusting my min and max since I first started using a coal trol on my Alaska Channing III. My max is now 53 with about 1.5'' of ash and min is set at 7. My stove is top vent so my min might be a little higher to maintian a good draft, than those of you that have a dv stove. A max of 30 sounds low to me, but that is what the coal trol oper. manual suggest as a starting point, and then advance from there till you have 1'' to 2'' of ash on your grate.
I purchased the Basic + because the thermostat is energy star rated and it has night and weekend setback points, Hope this helps, the guys at automation correct will be your best bet and explain your set up, stove location, Etc. The only difference between the basic and basic+ is the thermostat, the module is the same hope this helps!!!!!!
