I'm going out of town on Monday to return late Tuesday evening (with my inauguration tix in hand :P ). I want to shut the stoker off while gone and leave the oil burner on at 60 or so. It has a natural draft via an outdoor chimney. Can I just turn the switch to off and let it die a natural death or is there anything else I should do? Dumb question I suspect but am worried about CO as the coal stops burning since I have pets.

It should go out on it's own, just kill the power to the stove, once the flames die out and no combustion fan, it may take a while (an hour or so to completely die out). CO should not be a problem, once the fire goes out there is no combustion.

Enjoy the inauguration. If you get the chance while you're there, remember to mention that coal is a great source of energy :D

You know I will - and I do, every chance I get. I have a friend who is a reporter at one of the local papers and I've been pushing him to do a story.
