Obamas Second Major Mistake?

Obamas Second Major Mistake?

PostBy: coalkirk On: Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:08 pm

As most have heard, Obama will be drawing down troop levels in Iraq and building up troop levels in Afghanistan. Afghanistan borders Pakistan and both countries are rife with terrorists in the border tribal regions. Be clear that I'm not saying this is a mistake for the president to do so. But this is an extremely nasty region geographically. The tribes here have been fending off outside invaders forever quite successfully. Both countries have vast lawless areas under no ones control. To add to the mix, Pakistan pocesses nuclear weapons. All I'm saying is I hope President Obama has given more thought to this endeavor than he gave to closing Gitmo without having a plan as to what to do with the human scum who live there. Or for you libs, I hope he has given more thought to this endeavor than Bush did to winning the peace in Iraq after he won the war there. Just some food for thought and debate.

WHY BRITISH WEAR RED COATS

A long time ago, Britain and France were at war.

During one battle, the French captured an English Colonel. They took him to their headquarters,
and the French General began to question him.

Finally, as an afterthought, the French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats?
Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for my men to shoot at?

In his bland English way, the officer informed the General that the reason English Officers wear red coats
is so that if they are shot, the blood won't show, and the men they are leading won't panic.

And that is why, from that day to this, all French Army Officers wear brown pants.

See anything similar here? Being politically correct is painful to the rest of us. We can read between the lines.....

That's hardly a fair assessment of the amount of thought that President Obama has given & is giving to where to put the inmates of Gitmo. No one outside the inner circle at the White House knows that answer & he has given himself a full year to actually close the prison which has become a symbol of U.S. incompetence & inhumanity. GW Bush was in office years before his detractors, including me, started to distrust & argue against his decisions. Give the new President a chance.

So let me get this correct. Closing Gitmo is a mistake on Obama's part because the prisoners there want to attack America but going after the taliban and that bastard Bin Laden in Afghanistan is also a mistake? Someone want to explain that to me. As far as I'm concerned we should have never went into Iraq but committed our forces to eliminating the Taliban and killing Bin Laden. Those are the son of a bitches that attacked us, not Iraq.

So I guess Canada is just real lucky that GW didn't attack them after 911. Makes about as much sence if you think about it.

Google PNAC report read it and open your eyes.

It's about time, since not a single person in Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 and those pesky WMD's proved to be hidden better than we ever expected :P

Interesting. Not nearly as much response to this thread as the ridiculous "Obama First President to Skip Heros' Ball" thread. Especially considering you have hit on probably one of the most important and challenging tasks Obama and the military faces, but one that is absolutely critical. Up until now our efforts at the border region have largely been unproductive. Pakistan has equally been ineffective at controlling the tribal FATA region, despite our backing them financially. One can only hope by refocusing on Afghanistan and the border region we can finally get back on track and actually get bin Laden and crush the AQ safe-haven that exists in that region. How we do that in such a difficult region........I have no idea :?:

I think it`s the right thing to do in Afghanistan, should have never invaded Iraq in the first place but thats history. With Pakinstan not being too stable of a country to begin with & they do have a WMD it would be a good idea to take care of it sooner than later. It`s a shame that we allowed this to happen.
