Electric bills

PostBy: JohnnyAsbury On: Sun Jan 25, 2009 8:44 am

OK, I'm sure this will vary quite a bit, but what does everyone on here average for their monthly electric bill ? I have my DV and a couple of fans, several computers, and 2 kids, and my bill for 25 days was 201.90. Thanks PSNH for the new rate hike!

Hi Glen!
I have PP&L. My rates are in the $90 range with 2 adults and two kids and all of the extra's. I average 42kwh per month Nov, Dec, Jan.

The previous owners & builders of my home elected to go with a plan in 1988 which enables lower electric rates which I still carry toady which included install of stored heating unit in way of a 500gal electric Hyrdokentic system along with 80gal hot water domestic tank. I cannot exceed 1kwh between 7a & 5p, mon-fri or else will be charged a demand about $6.50, max of 4 demands per mo. The Hydrokentic has only been energized maybe 10x since I started using coal in 2003. It works well. BUT NOT BETTER THAN COAL! It's been a fabulous value so far for us.

We have propane everything. Just the 2 of us. Our bills average about $110. I do know that I pay .18 cents a Kw here in Me. and my brother in law pays .8 cents/Kw In Tenn. Hence my continued attempts to liquidate and move. There are other factors of course.

Our last bill was $66.45.
7.5 cents per kwh.
Most electricity here in Utah is from coal fired generating plants so I think our cost for power will be going up with this new administration in place that hates coal.

$.07.5 per KWH? Lucky dog! $.17.8 here. My bill runs $125 -$135 year round. It used to drop in the summer until we got an air conditioner. Also, it used to be $25 or $30 a month less until the rates went up the last few years.

I pay $0.17.4 per kwh, average usage around 600 kwh per month. Pay on average 100 per month.
Coal boiler,electric range,washer-dryer, 1 computer.
Of course the dryer is the biggest user, about 4-5000 kwh. Wife likes to hang clothes out in summer time, i'm glad cuz it offsets a/c use.

Just way too much.
The last one was well over $230 and seems to get a little higher each time.
We have 2 adults and 2 dogs and have eletric hot water heater..translation meter spinner.
I think the stated price is 12 cents a KWH but add all the extras and it upwards of 18 cents with all the add ons.

I've been checking my appliances with a Kill-a-Watt EZ. My bill last month was over $200 and I'm currently trying to find the culprit. I've removed a box freezer, 70 gallon fishtank, and a hot tub from the bill. My next bill (due in the mail any day) will show all of them off 100%.

The Kill-a-Watt Ez, connected for about 24 hours to each unit has so far shown me the following.

Based on a per-month cost:

TV, cable box - $4.00
Fridge - $4.15
Computer - $12.35 (on for the entire duration of the test. Monitor goes into sleep mode after 10 minutes)

I've been getting into the habit of shutting down the computer at night and during the day while at work.

Next up is the washing machine.
