Someone here does burn a Stratford (I can't remember who). Hopefully they will see your post and get back to you. The price certainly does sound good. :) :gee:

I have a Stratford the I got from my father. I am also a newbie to coal burning. After some long days of cursing this stove....it has proven to be worth my time. I don't know if you have this on your stove or not, but the lip on the ash door that prevents you from opening it without opening the load door....I cut that lip off. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to help

Hello,
Just sent you a PM, Great to hear someone else has one of these..
Look forward to comparing notes, I have dis-assembled mine and I am going to re-seal her.
the previous owner did a pretty bad job sealing the sove, The glass appears to have been leaking
and the ash door dosent look like it was sealed properly.. What size rope gasket is used on the door and ash door??

Thanks Again
Ken

Hello,
What type of coal are you using in the stove, Hows the heat output from the stove?? What is the burn time on a full load
of coal???
Thanks Ken

I am burning Anthracite Nut coal. I load the stove & shake down twice a day, 7AM and 7PM. I have no problem getting 12 hours of burn time keeping the ash door vent set to 1 - 1 1/2 slots open while we are at work. The house cools off a bit at this setting, the thermometer on the top of the stove settles at about 350 - 400*. When I get home at 5 I just open the draft to 2 - 2 1/2 slots open, and the stove temp jumps to 600 - 700* and heats the house quickly.

The heat output is impressive. Heating a leaky 1850 farmhouse (2500 sq ft) with nothing but passive radiant heat it does quite well. Distant rooms can be cold, but it's not a big deal for us since we don't use these 2 rooms and just shut them off.
