The two judges who led the Luzerne County Court for the last seven years took $2.67 million in payoffs for helping a private juvenile detention center reap millions from county contracts, with one of the judges going so far as to sentence children to detention over the objections of juvenile probation officers to benefit the center, federal prosecutors alleged Monday.

President Judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. and his predecessor, Michael T. Conahan, will serve 87 months in federal prison, resign from the bench and bar, and pay restitution if plea agreements released Monday are approved after a hearing before a federal judge.

About damn time and this is just the tip of the iceberg, going to be a very interesting year in Luzerne county to say the least. Looks as if they will probably plead guilty and be singing like canaries.

When I was a young guy I worked with a old Italian guy, he told me of how when he was young he worked for the mob. One of his jobs was to go to the Mongomery county courthouse every week and give a envelope to a judge. He worked that job for two years but quit cause his dad would not speak to him because of his work.

This BS has been going on forever in this county and the proverbial *censored* is about to hit the fan. This is only the start and there is going to be many more politicians that will indicted. Many scandals and things have come to light over the last year or two, the feds have been investigating not only the judges but many other people in County government. It's all connected and it's going fall like a giant house cards. I'd imagine right now there is many of them just waiting for the axe to fall.

Finally at least some of the blatant corruption in this county is being addressed. My first question yesterday was what about the two guys that were paying these judges? Shouldn't they be charged with crimes also?

I'll bet there are a lot of rat bast*rds scurrying around the courthouse today looking for a hole to crawl into. :)

Another one bites the dust. The court administrator has been charged with embezzlement. Seems he stole 70,000 from LCB raids on illegal gambling. Here's another guy making almost 100K a year but that wasn't enough. Good bye pension, hello orange jump suit. The FBI is doing a great job cleaning house. Sometimes I think our local politics is more corrupt than Chicago's.

I won't name names but I'll be willing to bet there will be at least 3 more elected officials and at least one past elected official going down the tubes. Not to mention some of the appointed staffers these guys brought on board.

I keep thinking with all of this nonsense going on what else was bought and paid for, the reassessment, the cargo airport and a couple of other fishy political appointments. That's the problem when high officials get busted for corruption, everything becomes suspect.

Hey Bill did you see yesterday's CV with Sharkey? They had a royal flush with Ciavarella as the Ace Conahan as the King and Sharkey as the 10.... The Queen and Jack were hidden. I wonder how many people picked up on that?

*censored* I missed it. I'll bet circulation went sky high for the two local papers. Everyone loves watching a train wreck in progress. Oh, and I'll lay odds on who the queen is :D
