I have a magnetic thermometer on my keystoker koker on the front just above the door. At full blast the temperature reads 710 degrees maximum....is this too high or an ok temperature? Thanks!

WOW, that running pretty hot....I don';t think I have seen over 500-550 on either of my stoves.
If you are not pushing hot coals off the end and the blowers are working moving the heat, Maybe they do run hot?

How's your draft, maybe give it some more, .04-.05 or so. Pull some excess heat out of the stove? Unless it is heating nicely, don't mess with it.

Depends on the stove. I finally obtained an owners manual for my Jotul 507 and it says you can burn it around 900 degrees.

I have a koker heating 1,400 sq. ft. + basement & mine has only been up to 500-550 range once on start-up, normally runs 250 to 375. Maybe your thermometer is off,I know that at 500 mine really radiates the heat. Seemed too hot for my likeing there.

Samhill, how big of an ash line do you have at the end of your grate when you are at full throttle?

Also, how many CCW turns from full CW is your feed running at?

thanks

Well interesting...I just called Keystoker and they indicated that there is no worry whatsoever if the stove runs up to 850 degrees on the outside above the door. They said even the glass is ceramic and will not crack and the stove can easily run at 750 degrees all day with no concern. So this makes me feel better that my max is about 710! :)

That;s good to always check with the MFR's. Every home heating situation is different.

My Hyfire runs great at the 450-500 and keeps the house constant 68-70.

How many turns in are you running? Depending what the weather is like I run anywhere from 1 turn to 4 turns. My house is a ranch and 15 yrs old, 2200 sq ft and that will maintain the house @ 72. The front of the stove is about 500. Sounds like with 1/2 inch of ash at the end you have it turned in pretty good. I have about 2 to 2/12 inches. Try turning the feed all the way CCW and turning 1 to 2 turns @ a time. Mine is a DV and when I have a greater feed rate I have to adjust the DV fan motor to a higher speed and also adjust the shudder to get the drift back to .02 to .03. My draft drops @ a higher feed rate.

I think max turns in is 14. So you are @ 10? You can turn it way back. My brother has a 3600 sq ft old Victorian and runs his a 5 turns and it keeps the house @ 70 with no issues.

Just curious at those settings , what is your coal consumption per day? We have a channing 3 and heating 2200 sq ft temps in the teens stove temp 350 to 425 using about 50 to 60 lbs a day. House at 70 - 72

Still new not sure about consumption yet...yes running at 10....can't turn it back too much right now or I get CO into my house at idle due to low draft problem....at this setting I am fine at idle and full fire!
