Depends on what is the most comfrotable setting for you and your family. Some like it 68, others like it 75. I guess it depends on your home insulation, windows, etc...
Our Hyfire likes to maintain about 68-70 and runs about 40-60% feed rate to maintain. Anything higher, it just keeps running full blast and sometimes doesn't even reach the setpoint.
If it can maintain your temp without running 100% or pushing hot coals off the end, you won't be wasting fuel.
Except when it's really cold out below 15 degrees, then it cranks.

Well, my wife likes it at 72....so I had the stat drop down to 67 over night and to 71 in the morning down to 68 during day...up to 72 in the evening....seems though I am using a lot of coal (two buckets) would I use less coal by keeping the stat between 70-72 24/7? (less of a range) Thanks

Here's my programmed cycle :
5:30 am-10:00 am 70F
10:00 am-2:30 pm 68F (sunlight warms rooms during the day)
2:30 pm-10:00 pm 70F
10:00 pm-5:30 am 65F (comfortable sleeping temp)
If no one is going to be home during the day, I select 65F over ride.

2 buckets sounds about right for that size of your stove. I usually fill mine up at night (2 or so buckets 60-80#'s) and it lasts for at least 24 hours or so. My hopper hold like 200#'s, so it's only about half empty, but I like to keep it full.
I have it set it 67 at night/morning, then it kicks up to 69 at 3:00pm and warms up the house nicely when we get home around 4:30pm, it stays 69-70 until 11pm, then back down to 67. I only move about 1-3 degrees since it takes long to come back up. That;s were we like it.

I keep mine at 68, seems to work well, using about 60# a day right now, was about 90# when the cold was around and I had both burners running. Not using the set back,
I was wondering and thinking of trying to set the idle and hi fire at the same setting and placing the heat switch to manual and slowing down the convection blower and see what happens. That would be a constant run, like some of the stoves people have on this board, I've never really experimented with it before.
