re: Harman Mag.

I mentioned this in another thread but maybe should start a new post.
Can anyone show me ( perhaps a pic.) of the ideal ash/remaining coal content, on a properly adjusted Mag. ?
I have some, not alot, but I'm not sure how to compare ?

Should there be absolutely none, 3 pieces per handfull of ash, etc. ?

Thx, Mossy Beard

It probably isn't consistent in any stove, you will probably always get a little bit of unburnt coal. Could depend on the outside temp, how hard you are running the stove, how much it idles, etc...
It should look like granola, either slightly grey or reddish color.

Don't forget coal quality, probably the biggest factor for those who contribute to this forum. There are lots of threads about red ash vs white ash, strip mined vs deep mined, one supplier vs another. In the final analysis, black unburned pieces that break open and reveal shiny coal inside are prospects for being put back in the fire, you should have none or very few if these little black beauties. ;)

What about if the coal crunches between your fingers (pea size)... is the fuel nearly burnt up by then?? I have quite a bit that has a little black in the middle, but it crunches when I squeeze it between thumb and forefinger...?
