Abuse at Gitmo

Abuse at Gitmo

PostBy: coalkirk On: Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:54 pm

Not what you might think. The abuse is by the inmates against the soldiers. Many have been serioulsy wounded, one blinded by the inmates. Here's a link to a website with more info and a book on the subject. I heard the author today on the radio.

Well congratualtions those fine inmates will be on yout streets sooner then you know it. Say what you will about Bush but we haven't had a terrorist attack on US soil since 9-11. Perhaps Gitmo was working?

IMO, I think it's working and shouldn't be shut down.

Lest we forget the last terrorist attack on US soil happened under Bush's watch.

Bush was in office less than nine months. The terrorists had been planning for several years.

Let's not forget that Clinton had bin Laden in his grip and let him go.

We're getting off topic here but Bush ignored warnings from FBI Agents about suspicious Arabs learning to fly airliners but not land them & ignored a CIA briefing of imminent attack (by Bin Ladin) one month before the actual attack!

horsepuckey

Clinton decimated the military and the intel services. He didn't have actionable intelligence because it was his own doing. Having little base to go on, GWB couldn't chase every windmill.

Let's not forget that had Clinton been interested in something besides his legacy and decimating intel, we would have taken bin Laden from whichever African nation was offering him up to us on a silver platter.

Clinton the buffoon, made a giant mistake.

You mean like when GWB had him cornered in Afghanistan?

Inmate on jailer violence at Gitmo isn't anything that doesn't happen in jails across the world every day.

Surprised they never put all the Gitmo prisoners on a plane home that encountered a "flock of birds" over the ocean.

Thanks for pointing out that we still have Osama cornered in Afghanistan after 7 years. Cornered bin Laden=neutralized bin Laden.

They never killed the Gitmo prisoners because 1) they are too moral for that baloney 2) they want the information they have.

We'll see what Obama does.

As usual, you're 125% wrong. The 224 detainess at gitmo are the worst of the worst. Otherwise Obama would have invited them to one of his inaugural balls. Any who were at all questionable as to being dedicated terroists were long since released, many of whom it turns out should not have been released.
Yea lets discredit the video because they have links to fox, the only network that actually has active debate between libs and conservatives as part of their regular programming.

:blah:

The whole question of "crime v. war" has been exhausted in another thread. Whether you call them "insurgents," "guerrillas," "freedom fighters," or members of the "resistance," un-uniformed zealots (including our own founding fathers at times during our Revolution) have always been a problem for justice systems. The more harshly you treat them, the more heroic they become to their cause of opposing you -- and the more followers that cause will be able to recruit.

It's not the simple answer you like but the only way out of this in the long term is to actually show the world that we're better and more just than those who oppose us. That doesn't mean that we should not oppose those who mean us harm and hunt down those who do us harm. But it does mean that we have to stop ignoring the international conventions governing treatment of prisoners.

Finally, as to Faux News, they have liberals on there? Like who, Alan Colmes? And even he's gone.

Considering the great probability that at least some of the detainees at Gitmo have been innocent all along, with no way of proving their innocence & no hope of freedom, the fact that some may have lashed out at the only targets within their reach, (the prison guards) makes it difficult for me to fail to sympathize with their desire to fight back. I would....& so would a number of you too if the situation was reversed.

Regardless of that however, even if it could be proven that ALL the detainees are murderers, you really can't argue with the fact that Gitmo has became & international symbol of U.S. inhumanity & needs to be closed. Even Bush wanted it closed.

Here's a question about 9/11. Since many blame Bush please provide with a valid answer to what you would have done to stop the attacks. Short of being from Krypton and flying to intercept the jets I am not sure what Bush could have done. Are you aware of how much intelligence is collected and presented to the President or other seniors staffers. I would imagine on any given day there are numerous “imminent” threats.
