Today's project. Two ash pans for a forum member. I can't say who, you know, patient confidentiality & all. Perhaps he'll stop by and admit to them being his. They were a fun project & taught me all about measurement allowances. When steel goes around a corner, it's stretches... or shrinks...one way or another, if you measure 3" and bend it, it's no longer 3"!
I did these at cost as a favor and to learn. If someone else needs one I'd be glad to do it, but it'd have to be on the clock. Bottom line, one from the factory would probably be cheaper, but if you can't get one, need a custom one, contact me. One thing, my brake (bender) is a 24" one. The largest I can do in one piece is 24" total, down over up. Like these are 12" by 18" by 3". The long way is 18 +3+3= 24, the largest I can make in one direction.

Great job Freddy! Ahh the joy of bending metal, looks like 24 gage so your not adding a lot to the bend just about the thickness of the metal per 90 degree bend and about half for a 45 degree bend, this will vary depending on how hard you are bending the corner. Yes very nice, I can't tell if you used a tab for the corners or not if you did you can even solder the joint if you want. If you ever need any help with a bend let me know. I love metal fab work. Just one more thing, I can't tell if you did this or not from the picture but if you hem the top edge it makes it a lot safer. Ok I'll stay out of your hair now, lol.

Yes you can, just sand the area you want to solder and use silver solder with flux and an iron, works well.

By iron do you mean I can use my weller soldering gun? Can a propane torch be used?

Weller should work, If you use the torch then you need to heat up an iron with the torch or you will just blow everything away with the force of the torch. Make sure you clean the parts well and sand off the galvanize to get to the metal.

Before you run out and buy more supplies try what you have out on the metal you want to solder it just might do the job.

For the curious, here's a close up of a practice pan. Hemmed top, tabbed corners, and, I was lucky enough to find a spot welder for $75 a couple years back. I'd like to try soldering one though.

"Tell me about your break, where did your get it and what did it cost?"

I saw it in a local ad. A 36" shear (which I already had), a 36" roller, a rotary crimper thingy, and the 24" brake. All Pexto tools. The ad said he'd separate them, but when I got there, no. So.... I bought 'em all! If you need a 36" shear let me know. The rest I've decided to keep. A new Pexto 24" break is $4,300. I paid $1,500 for all the tools.

Ya, creep, you had to ask didn't ya? One.... LOL...honest... after they were done I was sitting here, reached into the waste basket next to me to get a scrap of paper to write the shipping address on, and got a paper cut!!
