Well, I've had our Harman DVC-500 up and running for a week now, and this little snowstorm just dumped 6 inches of heavy snow on us, and knocked out our electricity. By the time I got our generator up and running, 10 minutes, the DVC-500 had smothered itsself. No draft without electricity. Looks like I'll have to hook up a UPS to it, just to keep draft motor running for 10-20 minutes until generator kicks in. Well, thats a good thing if the coals go out, at least they won't overheat the stove and possibly cause a fire.
I do have a UPS to protect my computers in our home office, I'll just buy another and sit it behind the DVC-500.

Anyone else have the same issue?

Has anyone run the DVC-500 on a generator ? I'm affraid of screwing up the fan motors with the digital sine waves produced by most generators. I think I'll wait until I get another UPS. In the meantime, I'll just stoke up the FireplaceExtrordinaire.

As do ALL STOKER Stoves, they need power to run. They do go out pretty fast once the power is removed. Search on Power Inverters, UPS, Battery backup. Many of us have numerous things to get us thru the power outages (Except the hand fired guys that don't need power).

Dave, yep that pretty much comfirms my thoughts. When we had the new Oil burner installed in 2005, I asked if I could run it on a modified sine wave generator. (We loose street power all the time, out here in the boonies). The sales guy said no problem, the computer in the Carrier Oil burner accepts the modified sinewave from a generator, no problem.
I know the motors in the Harman DVC-500 would NOT like running with a modified sine wave, as Harman DOES offer a UPS for it, but the price is "my first newborn son"! Sorry, no deal there! I am very handy with electricity, and can easliy build my own UPS, as per the discussions in thread about2795.html.

Maybe I'll start mass-producing my new "Stove-UPS", and sell then on Ebay for half the cost of what Harman sells them for.
