A friend of mine in DEA just let me know that Spike TV (http://www.spike.com/shows/dea) is airing a TV series about DEA. It appears to be a "Cops" type show & some full episodes can be viewed online at the above link. (You can even skip the ads! ) I just watched the episode 'Deep Undercover" & was impressed,

Just watched another episode which I recommend. http://www.spike.com/episodes/3tckaa/dea-dea-vs-h ... n-1-ep-101
The show doesn't show the reality of the boredom of very long hours of fruitless surveillance but it does show the excitement that I'd be lying if I said I don't miss sometimes.

I watched a couple of episodes of it last night & it is very good, just like "Cops" like you say. I have a couple of questions if you have time somtime.

Woody is identified as a Task Force oficer. Is that different than a DEA agent?

When you guys use an informant to buy drugs for you, these are pretty bad guys themselves so what prevents a defense attorney from claiming the informant planted the drugs that he claimed he bought from your defendent?

Thanks

Morning Jeddbird.......I like the show too!

DEA offices always have 1 or 2 Task Forces running at any given time. A task force is a temporary group of DEA Special Agents along with state & local narcotics detectives who work together targeting certain targets or drug problems. Typically the locals have more local experience & better informants (CI's) but DEA has access to unlimited $$$$$! (we need the locals for their info/experience & they need us for buy/flash money) Woody, I guess is a state or local detective assigned to the DEA Task Force by his department.

Excellent question! ..That's exactly what a defense atty would try as a possible court defense except that, to prevent that defense, the last thing we do with a CI, (before he goes out with us to make a buy) is perform a complete strip search of him at our office. Then he is constantly with us or under surveillance so that, later in court, we can testify that he had no drugs on him/her b4 they met the seller.(another reason why we will try to cut the CI out of the picture asap, by having him/her introduce one of our agents who will make the future buys, undercover.
