I am just speechless.

U.S. House members poised to ban motorized vehicles from 2.1 million acres

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The U.S. House of Representatives could vote as early as next week on a wide-ranging bill that could shut off-highway motorcyclists and all-terrain vehicle riders out of more than 2 million acres of public land, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.

The measure, Senate Bill 22, also known as the Omnibus Public Lands Bill, is actually a package of more than 160 bills that were melded together to form a single bill more than 1,300 pages long.

"This bill was on the fast-track in the U.S. Senate and passed swiftly earlier this year without public scrutiny or debate," said Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations. "The measure is now being steamrolled through the U.S. House without giving the public an opportunity to fully digest its impact and debate the many provisions in the bill."

Moreland isn't the only one upset at how this legislation is being handled. U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah), a key lawmaker, said, "Poor process produces poor product, and this is an example of congressional process at its worst. Parts of this bill are good, and parts are very bad. Each part deserves to be discussed and voted on its own merits."

Moreland called on all AMA members, off-highway motorcyclists, ATV riders and everyone who supports responsible outdoor recreation to immediately contact their Congressional representative and ask them to reject the bill. The measure should be defeated because it unreasonably bans motorized recreation on 2.1 million acres of public land by inappropriately designating it as Wilderness, and because the procedures used for fast-tracking the bill through the U.S. Senate and House violate the spirit of open and democratic government.

"Continued responsible access to public lands is a vitally important right for current and future generations," Moreland added. "This measure deserves to be fully analyzed and thoughtfully debated prior to a final vote."

A rapid way to contact elected U.S. representatives is in the "Issues & Legislation" area of the Rights section of the AMA website at http://www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com.

About the American Motorcyclist Association
Since 1924, the AMA has promoted and protected the motorcycling lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest motorcycle organization with nearly 300,000 members, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists' interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations and the court of public opinion. Through member clubs, promoters and partners, the AMA sanctions more motorsports competition events than any other organization in the world. Through its Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the AMA preserves the heritage of motorcycling for future generations. For more information, visit http://www.AmericanMotorcyclist.com.

Things are not looking good for us with Dems running the show....

If you want to personaly contact the individual who is responsible for the on-line petition you can go to the site referenced in the first post and you will find the authors name.

Google his name and you will find that he has a professional web site for his outdoor photography and book business.

His personal information is listed on the web site.

As much as I hate A** Holes like this, professional ethics prevent me from publishing his personal information here. My ethics do not however prevent me from telling you how to find it if you are interested.

The STOPTHRILLCRAFT.ORG site is one screwy site, I'm sure I'll have a nightmare about it now ----- for a good laugh check out
**Broken Link(s) Removed** WTF! :?

Whats next - outlaw high heels & tight jeans ?

I've had duals sports & trail bikes all my life - here on long island, its 1st offense IMPOUND & FOREFITURE to ride off road anywhere other than your own land. (I'm better off taking my 4x4 out for an illegal ride) I now trailer my families bikes to PA to ride the Pittston culm piles in relative peace. (I believe pretty much right around where Richard S. is) I'm going to need a new riding area soon - a new super walmart/industrial park is going in sometime soon.

Coalbin, check out the riding in Western Me. around Eustic and down here in Washington county. A bit far down here but there is a lot of room to roam.

Kevin,

Funny you should mention Washington County - I've been going camping there for years along with the Fundy Isles. Last year I bought a new trailer (small but with torsion bar axle & 15" wheels) - One of the reasons was to finally get the bikes up there and do some GPS exploring. Was looking at joining the East Stream Riders.

I should send them these pics of my new toy. It would probably give them a heart attack. :D

Actually it's not mine. A friend knows my love of hotrods and snow so he sent me these. I think it's awesome. I'd love to have it.

AdkCoal,
I see his name is all over the web. I happened to notice that he listed on his photography site that he likes taking pictures of children in nature. PEDOFILE! :fear: He fits the demographic.....

CoalBin,
I hosed down my monitor with booze after seeing that PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals ;) ) site!!! BWAAHAHAHA!! Those people are even more whacked than I thought! Are they raised on a steady diet of LSD right at birth? Must be! SEA KITTENS!! BWAAHAHAHHAAAA!!!!

Billw, that thing is SWEEEEEET!!!! Must be a BLAST!! I'd love to take that thing wide-open across the ice! I would have never thought of building a T-bucket snowmobile! 8-)

I've been dying to take a trip down to the Hatfield-McCoy trail system down in WV. I think if I ever make it to retirement, that place will be my new home! Screw this place (MA) !

The culture is one that glorifies machines and human dominance of nature. It is a culture estranged from the natural world. The speed, noise, and air pollution associated with these machines blurs, obscures, and hides natural beauty and prevents appreciation.

I think that these nit wits are the vocal minorities. However, If you do ride or drive off road you really should belong to a club that lobbies for your hobby. NETRA , MUD HOGS or any other organization helps keep these bunny hugging pussys at bay. :D
It blows me away when the state (Ma) busts my b*lls if I ride on state land on my bike. For Pete sake theres hardly anyplace left to ride. But they can have a logging company go and log that same parcel of land with all kinds of heavy equipment leaking oil and grease all over the place. No hay bales or siltation fences or anything. I couldnt do that kind of damage in a life time with my bike. What a bunch of hypocrits!
Other than that I have no strong feelings about the matter.

Yup, I'm sure the $350 million a year that snowmobiles bring into Maine wouldn't be missed. Outlaw all motorized vehicles! Look at how we screwed up the Earth with all the asphalt. All those bridge pilings frig up the flow of rivers, man oh man. Crush all the cars, rip up the roads, return things to nature!

When I was competing in Observed Trials motorcycles Rhode Island outlawed recreational vehicles on state land. We went to the state and showed them how trials motorcycles do NOT hurt the land. They now allow trials competitions on state land. Even MA allows trials a couple of times a year. I don't think you can go practice on state land, but the events are held no problem. In Maine? Other then snowmobiles, NO rec vehicles on State land.

This state expects us to pay $40 for 2 years registration, then will impound the machine for riding it anywhere! Typical dumb-ass MA politics at work!

Mr1, I feel the EXACT same way........ They let things slip by the wayside when it lines Ted Kennedy's pockets with cash. Funny how bulldozing 130 acres for a shopping center doesn't do ANYTHING to their precious "environment". Or when they decide to build 200 hip-roof colonials @ 5,000 sq. ft. each for all the bark-banging yuppies. They bend over 360 degrees for the God damn hikers, spending MILLIONS paving bike paths, while we get snubbed as rednecks...... & get the shaft. It's just plain infuriating!!

Freddy, I've only seen trials in action twice in my lifetime, but I have HUGE respect for anyone who rides like that! 8-) VERY cool to watch! I used to attempt similar stunts with my Honda 250R after a weekend of debauchery....... it never ended well! toothy
