Keystoker koker Feed Question

Want to make sure I have this correct...

I found that the feed screw when turned all the way CCW until it can't go anymore and then turned CW until it can't go anymore is a total of 17.25 turns.

So, What I did was turn the screw CW for the 17.25 turns (until it could not go any further) and then turned it 11.5 CCW and that is where the stove is set .

This setting seems to be best for my house best I can tell.

I see others saying they are running at 8 turns, etc...me not understanding what point of reference is being used..does the above seem right?

Others experience with settings?

I believe they are stating ALL the way IN (max feed) and then back it out 8 turns. So you are pretty close.

17 - 11 = 6 turns out (approx.), you are in the ball park.

You have to put it on MAX Heat required (turn the thermostat up) and get it burning/feeding max and set it accordingly without pushing hot coals off the end and have about 1" of ash on max feed. Start at 4-6 turns out, If you are pushing hot coals off, back it out 1/2-1 turn and continue until it settles in (May take you a couple hours).

Then that is the optimum setting. Every stove is different, so what works for one, may not for another. You have to do your own trial and error.

By the way I ran the stove all the way in just to see it's capabilities while finding the "sweet spot" and WOW...temp on front of stove 800 degrees....hot coals flowing off the grate.....what a heat machine! Only did that for an hour.....house went up to 75 in that hour with the convection blower on the whole time....amazing that the 1530cfm blower could not even wash the heat off quick enough at full blast to cause the fan limit switch to shut off the convection blower!

WOW! That';s a bit HOT !! I can get my Hyfire up to 500-550 on the front on good burn! I am about 1/2-3/4" from the end at full Feed Rate.

As far as I'm concerned, Dave is correct (as usual).
I run my stroke adjustment all the way in, then count the number of complete revolutions as I back it out (ccw).
This is the number I say my stoker is set at.

I hope it shut of the stoker! Fan limit should shut it down and prevent overheating.

no, the stoker did not reach 200...just stayed at 160 keeping the convection fan on contantly....no overheating concerns occurred.

I have mine set at 6 turns CCW from max. 3 pins ea. 10 minutes on the timer. Seems to be working OK. I'll see what happens when it gets cold out.

Yeah, since this post way back when I have settled on 7 CCW, 555 pins and it seems to keep the tstat wihin 1 degree, far less overshooting. Koker is one heck of a machine! Been using this setting now for a few years. Been burning this year about 30lbs a day with temps in the low 50's at night since oct 17th, wife likes the house at 73. Had one scare where I had to replace the taco relay as the timer was not spinning when I started her up this year but that was a very easy fix to do. Been burning 4 years now. Claridon, do you have a direct vent?

Yes, direct vent
