computer issue with forum

PostBy: DOUG On: Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:00 am

I don't know what is going on. All of the pictures and the ads don't show up anymore. This has been occurring through Firefox, not the Internet Explorer and seems to be an ongoing problem. The thing is that it is only happening with this site. All the other sites seem to be fine. If I trash my Firefox shortcut, do a system restore, bring the site back up and shortcut it to the descktop again, it works for a few days and it happens again.

Any thoughts? What do I do? It's almost like something is trying to attack this website. My computer is clean and everything else works as usual. Help. Thanks, DOUG

Have you installed any security software or anything else recently before this started?

I'd first suggest clearing you temporary internet files: tools > Clear Private data

Make sure "cache" is checked.

If you're using Flashblock or Adblock with firefox this may be your problem!

I couldn't figure it out why it was happening. So I trashed all Firefox, system restored, got rid of all the problems mentioned above, and Firefox will not let it run. So I'm done with Firefox now and eliminated it totally from my computer. Updated the newest Internet Explorer and nepacross works flawlessly. I don't understand? I've used Firefox for years. But once again, it only gave me problems when on this site. Figure??

Now all I have to do is figure out how Internet Expolorer can remember my password so my shortcut on the desktop will work like before. I have to key in everytime I visit now.

The log in you have to do every time for this forum is not with Internet Explorer but it should be with the forum it self. When I log in there is a box that ask me to remember me and I check it and I don't log in again even when my PC shuts down. If I go to another PC I still have to log in since this is done with a cookie and every PC needs a cookie, but on the same PC log in once and forget it. If that doesn't work then you might have cookies disabled or something else that a more savvy member could help you with.
If you want Internet Explorer to remember passwords, open IE, top of page look for "tools", "Internet options", "content" tab, "auto complete", "settings", make sure you have the box checked for "users names and passwords on forms" and also check the box right under it " prompt me to save passwords"

Well, I've found Internet Explorer to be very slow for some reason. I loaded Firefox back up and now it works. I just don't understand why it was not giving me any of the pictures before. The Firefox is so much faster of a search engine. I don't know why or understand what is making it do what it does, when it does it, but we are back to warp speed again. Thanks for all of the help. Doug,

One thing about IE is that it has a lot of things that start automatically, add ons, and BHO's I turn all of that stuff off. I also run the full test program at http://www.pcpitstop.com/ that lets me know if I'm at top speed or not, and also tells me if there are item/programs that are running that can be turned off so that my pc runs faster.
All in all, glad your back up and running the way you like.

I had the same problem for about 2 months, never got around to looking into it. Happened here and on other sites. Clearing the history repaired it temporarily. I use Firefox. After a recent Firefox upgrade the problem disappeared. Using version 3.0.6 right now.

I had this problem last week. I PMed Richard to see if the NEPA servers were ok. They were. Just today, I installed IE 8, cleared all temp, old urls, and history files, kept my cookies, and BOOM! No more delays. I bet it was just my pc trying to update 1000's of webpages everytime I hit Enter.
Our fault for not setting up Internet Options correctly.
