I'm not having much luck trying to track down a past discussion about dip tanking. The electrolytic tank method . Anybody have this? Thanks :) Scott

I found this .pdf on the web but couldn't find anything on the forum using the advanced search. The chemical used in the electrolytic bath is sodium carbonate aka washing soda.

I searched the forum for sodium carbonate and found this cast iron or steel boiler?. Good information about pasivating unprotected and newly cleaned metal surfaces. Maybe not what you're looking for but it's an important factor in boiler longevity. There's a lot of potential chemical activity/corrosivety at metal/water contact surfaces. Part of this thread posted by mikeandgerry address surface protection with Sodium Carbonate. I can't go into details, but at work they manufacture synthetic fluids and the pH of 8.5 is a critical protection parameter for protecting metal surfaces exposed to temperature/fluids. Another compound more commonly found in water is calcium carbonate. Search on "Langelier index", but I think that's used more in cooling towers and not boilers.

I hope putting this link here is alright.
If you go to http://www.weekendfreedommachines.com/ and do a search on the forums there you will find how they do it with very large items. Between this forum and that one I do my 2 hours of reading a day quite easily.

FINALLY getting around to restoring these 13 radiators that have a bizillion coats of paint on them. I built a tank 4' by 3' by 18" deep and a buddy came over and we used his rebar bender to make a bunch of U's. ( That's ewes for you wingnut :D ) Hooked the battery charger up and yup, it started bubbling and cooking fine. Made only one small error though. I hooked the battery charger up backwards. It works good but wears the wire suspending the radiator out. Started out fresh today and hope to have some pics to post soon. They are cute little radiators ;)

I know about you and the ewes...............
Do you have a supplier for those special 'double opening boots'?
You probably have created a cliff nearby to practice on.
I thought the electrodes were a personal preference kind of thing, but bending 'U's is not an Olympic event yet.
You must have ventured over across the border again on your way to God's Country in the North East Kingdom.
Better bring the biggest/badest off road rig you can, we are in serious trouble up here with washed out roads, bridges, vast flooded areas. Not funny at all, this is something I've never seen in my 144 years on the planet.

If you are out in the Anthracite Dust Fired Lighter Than Air Airship, check out Rob up at the top of the State.
I heard you were coming to the Lenox Race here in 3 weeks, and that is OK, but just remember to leave the wooly ones back on the farm, we don't have that 'Bellows Falls tolerance' thing over here. Men are men, and women are darned glad of it!!
Please bring some wool however, it is starting to cool down and the swamp maples are turning crimson already. :eek2: toothy :mad3:

Yo Dougie!!!! It can't be all that bad  You still have the internet :) You know all about the ewes too. You have a reputation for picking the ugly ones. I've heard that there is a new boot designed for the N.H. crowd. Only the front feet fit in  :nana:
