I agree. You never now but you may be able to recoup some money for the next coal run.

Update: I went over on 1-27 and bought 3200 lbs at a cost of $160.00. I emptied my trailer today and threw away 510 lbs of fines/smalls. Assuming my math is correct that puts me paying $120/ton of usable coal. Still cheap heat, but with a comfortable capacity of only 2 ton per trip I'd certainly rather pay more per ton and be able to burn what I bring home.

That's what happened to me my first year burning coal.The place i bought my coal from loaded my truck with a skid steer loader and i got all those fines,so now i load my truck by hand and get about all the same size of coal,and don't have any fines either.I always ask if they care if i load by hand.It takes me about an hour to load my truck.

hman where are you getting your coal?

you guys need to stop talking about this 100$/ ton coal . i'm getting jealous . i really would like to try some bit coal in my hitzer .

The last coal I bought from bramhi was $85 a ton I got 700 lbs for $31 and it cost me $20 for gas, its what they call egg its from the size of a egg to a soft ball and also fines.

Carl,I get mi coal from S.M.J in Wrigley south of Grayson in Kentucky.My first year i burnt egg coal from Bramhi and didn't have the best of luck with that.I had pick my coal and get from softball size to 8inches round to 3-5 inches thick.I have had very good luck with this coal.I can get any were between 12-20 hour burn times,not much soot,better control of burn and it last a lot longer.Also their is a couple other places south of Ashland Kentucky,Redbud coal and Big Sandy Stone on Rt 23.that has block coal and they let you hand pick it,and they are open on Saturdays.

Update: Yesterday afternoon a very nice young man and his father came and mined my discard piles to use in his forge. I suspect they'll get the rest of it over the coming weeks, but yesterday they filled up a water trough, a #2 wash tub and a couple of buckets. We've made arrangements for him to call in November and clean off my trailer when I've emptied what I can use. I was very pleased to give it to him as I really hate waste.

The mine out on tunnel hill rd in New Lexington OH is selling ROM for $75 a ton. Smoke is not too bad, but does soot up the inside if my stove a bit. Very little fines. Hand load or loaded for you, your choice.
Most of my pieces are the size if a shoebox or bigger. I would post the pic but it keeps posting upside down.
