Urdahere, a name that has stuck with me from my Navy days back in the '60's. Answered roll call and the telephone that way and still do.
Home is just outside of Groton, NY.
Installed a Leisure Line Pocono furnace on February 17th, 2012 and have enjoyed constant and consistent heat since then. I purchased it from STOYELL Stove, Coal in Moravia, NY and they installed it. Rodger and son Mike Stoyell are tops and very professional. I highly recommend them to anyone in this area. Been customers of Suburban Propane and Oil for over 40 years and I have had it with their pricing. Checked around and found that they are way more than anyone else around here and after a $780 bill to fill my tank, I said that that is enough. I knew of some people who had LL coal stokers and I could not believe the heat that these stoves were putting out and once I found out what it cost them, there was no going back to oil.

I live in Chateaugay NY, which is northern part of Adirondack mountains 5 miles from the Canadian border. I've been burning coal 4-5 years. I own a Harman sf-260 coal/wood boiler. I burn very little wood now that I started burning coal. I heat 1600 sq. ft. new construction with water to air coil in my oil furnace . The boiler has a hot water coil installed that supplies 2 adults,and 2 teenagers. I used 4-5 ton coal and 2-3 face cord of wood 2011-2012.

My name is Chris and I live in Greene NY, north of Binghamton on NYS rte. 12 about 20 miles. Just into Chenango county. I just purchased a refurbished Keystoker K6 which is going to be installed remotely in a purpose built shed and plumbed underground into my house. I'm going to parallel it with my existing F.O. boiler and then continue out the other side of the house (still underground) and connect it to a Propane fired on demand boiler that heats a dog boarding kennel. I am a little anxious about the install as it is a DIY job. I installed both of the existing systems myself and expect I just need to dive in and do it. Wish me luck and I'm sure open to any suggestions! Thanks

Hello. My name is Mike. I live in Westtow NY. Near the tri-state of New Jersey and Pa. Made it thru the first winter with coal. I started out with a vermont castings vigilant II. That gave me nothing but problems. After wasting about $2900 on that stove went and purchased a 1905 Our Glenwood model stove from Rhode Island. What a stove! The gentleman at the antique stove hospital knew their stuff. I hope we get a tough winter coming up to really try it out. Out of the 3 ton of coal I purchased in Oct , I still have about 1000#'s left. Those old stove are great burners.

What where your problems with the Vigilant? We all have a learning curve. I only hope if you have new problems we can help. I would of killed 30 years ago for this forum, not to be up on my soapbox but I learned by experience. Remember experience come from bad judgement

I knew there would be learning curves . I went back and forth with the dealer and the company. No help there . I did get advice from this site that at least got the stove burning all night . The biggest issue was not getting enough heat and too much going up the chimney . I guess you live and learn . The one I got now works good .

Hello my fellow New Yorkers. My name is Tom and I'm from Long Island. I have a Coal Chubby that I absolutely love. Purchased the house with it about 2 years ago. Burned wood the first season but struggeled to keep the fire going overnight. I started experimenting with coal to keep the fire alive through the long overnight stretch and was instantly hooked. Happy to say that I still have a neatly split and stacked pile of wood in my backyard...untouched! The amount of heat output in coal is very impressive. My stove is tucked away in the corner of my house. Good but bad! Keeps it out of reach from curious little fingers, but doesn't quite heat the entire house. The heat used to reach just far enough to keep the thermostat off. The bedrooms which are located on the opposite side of the house were always chilly. Thanks to my uncle and his thinking cap, I installed a vent system through my attic. I have an intake above my stove with an 8" ducted fan. I cut registers into the bedrooms which are located on the opposite side of my house. Best investment, keeps the entire house warm. Even have to open windows to cool the place down! I had one of the original Chubby stoves, a nightmare to shake down. Was tired of the mess so I got in touch with Larry Trainer and made a trip up to Mass. to see him. Traded in my Chubby for an updated model. It was hard giving that stove up...funny how we get so attached to a piece of cast iron! Excited about using the new stove this winter. Coal prices are a bit pricey on the Island. Our hands are tied...only 2 dealers that I know of. Still beats heating with oil. Coal...a good American product!

Near Gilbertsville, NY. 5 plus years with a hitzer 30-95 and a hitzer 55 multifuel with hot water coil. I burn 2-3 tons a year and as much wood as I feel like cutting. I have room for 5 tons of nut delivered. Any suggestions for a source for this year?

How about Staleens in Madisonville? I used to drive from Albany to get their Jeddo Nut.

Hi Mike and welcome, I'm in Chester and drive through Westtown often, nice part of the world. I am adding a Hitzer to the mix this year as parts availability is high on my list. Love the old baseburners but lack courage (and now money). Emery will retire soon.

I have a local dealer that sell alaska was looking alaska stoker II Just wondering if anyone has one or used one would like to know the goods bads and evil with stove. We got to love our New York winters..
