Premium Coal From Tamaqua Quality

does anyone have problem burning preiume coal from tamaqua seems like get alot of unburnt coal, slate, even rocks

Premium coal in Tamaqua Has vry poor quality coal. I live in Tamaqua, and very few peoplw deal with them here.

So Matt, where do you get your coal?

I am forced to use Tamaqua premium coal every year and it actually is not that bad for me....keeps my stoker running at 700 degrees when needed....I have no problems with it though I know it's not the best....would love to try out UAE!!!

I get my coal fro one of 3 places, If I get a delivery or if I buy bags I use earth and fire in tamaqua, If i pick up myself I get either from Lehigh Antracite, or Gale Mining

Why are you "forced" to use Premmium coal every year??? And why would you love to try UAE? The best hard coal in the world comes from right here in Tamaqua, dont forget a large part of the mammoth vein runs through here. I know which local breakers have the best coal, I know where its mined for the most part. See alot of tamaqua's breakers arent using coal mined from good sources.

Matt, aren't you the owner of EARTH AND FIRE? And are you not trying to drum up business on this website without paying the advertisement fee. Sort of a "shady" practice for a business owner. Wouldn't it be better if you used your one free advertising post and came clean?

I have to agree with Scottscoaled. Matt, I regularly see you post with basically simple one liners always advertising something like this:

Instead of asking for private PMs to tell of the best places just tell us. If indeed you own a coal sales business we'd be happy to hear from you and from others who have done business with you. Furthermore, if you're looking for business you really should advertise here. The small fee you'd have to pay would probably pay off in the long run.

I am not a business, I am just a coal user. I Love gale mining coal, and Lehigh antracite is also very good coal. There you happy?

Hi everyone, I burn mainly chestnut coal myself. However since I have an F-250 diesel and a dump trailer I haul rice coal for my dad and uncle every year! We have tried American Premium coal, both nut and rice. The nut coal was lousy and the rice coal was even worse according to my dad and uncle. The people working there were very friendly and gave us each a free hat but the coal was no good! To this day we joke about getting coal from there as we drive by. The most consistent coal we have bought for years is South Tamaqua coal pockets coal. Always clean and very consistent, however I have been told that they bought alot of their coal from LC&N and they no longer get it from there. My dad and uncle burn their rice coal every year because it is close to home and the easiest for my to get for them. I tried UAE last year and I was very satisfied with their coal, I will make the trip there this week for nut coal, as well as South Tamaqua for rice coal. I tried LC&N nut coal a few years ago and it too was lousy, I learned that they were processing alot of bank coal at that time? I do have a question on the red ash UAE coal for somebody that knows a little more about coal. I was told the red ash coal means it was near fire, any truth to this? I work with a few people who worked at various coal mines some for years, including a man that worked at LC&N. Back in the day that was the best coal you get. I am not an expert by any means, just a person who burns coal in a Harman insert to heat my house! For the record I have learned that coal varies from one trip to the next at any given mine. I have tried coal from UAE, LC&N, South Tamaqua, West Penn, American Premium, Jeddo Highland, Blaschak, and Tuscarora. It is kind of a hobby of mine to always try and find "Better" coal, good luck!

From what I understand red ash coal is found closer to the surface, and generally contains more Iron, If you are maing the trek to tamaqua I recommend Gale mining company, there coa is slightly dirty, but you wont find better coal anywhere. LCN was distributing alot of bank coal a few years ago. They were on the vurge of bankrupcy and trying to make a quick buck! They are now back to prducing some of the best coal around. Its a close 2nd to Gale, although it is much cleaner. They do not allow small trailers and such though like Gale does. South Tamaqua Pockets was buying coal from another mine, not LCN. But the other mine was leasing the land from LCN. when LCN went bankrupt Lehigh ANthracite ( the former LCN) told the other mine they must sell them the coal or forfeit the lease, at least thats what ive been told.

I purchased 4 tons of Pea from them and had it delivered, they came on time and dumped it right in to my coal bin with their high lift truck. I am a first time user of coal this year and was excited to start up the furnace and start saving money but am having second thoughts of using coal only because of the strong odor coming from the basement to the first floor. After reading many post and looking for an answer as to why we have a sulfur smell that lingers around the house, I see that others say the quality of coal is poor, I hope that’s all it is. I keep telling my wife that it is the coal and I will find a different company to purchase our next stock pile from. I have nothing to judge what is good or bad quality Ash but I have more clinkers than I do Ash, all the coal seems to be burnt but I am getting a lot of what seems to be metal or rocks that is left with a small amount of ash. I keep enough windows cracked throughout the house to keep air circulating and the faster I use the coal the sooner I can find another source to see if that corrects the problem. For every 2, 5 gallon buckets of coal that I put in the hopper, I get 1/2 to 3/4 of a bucket of ash and clinkers out.

There is something wrong with your boiler if you smell sulfur fumes in the house. Bad draft, leaking pipe joints, etc...something is wrong. I hope you have CO detectors? Time to troubleshoot.

I pick my nut coal up at a supplier in Hilltown. He always has South Tamaqua coal and I have never had any kind of issues with it in my hand-fired. It has been the same over the three years I have been burning it. My father-in-law has been burning coal from the same supplier for over 15 years with no issues. Now that I am burning, it would be interesting to try a few bags from a different mine.

mgrant, sometimes it is better to get another load of good coal and dump it on top of your junk coal so you can blend it,.
