I got the auger at frys machinery, $302 with tax, Tractor supply sell one for $349 + tax.

I used a 1 hp motor as my angle is more than 45. Got it from grizzly for around 130 I think.

Worked better than I expected.

Thanks for sharing, Stan! Let's face it, the easier we can make it on the user, the more folks that will not be scared off as we age (gracefully). Takes most of the work out of the refueling process. A special thanks to your 'significant other' that shows the girls that this is a family affair, that won't break the nails! I'll be in Williamsport in a couple weeks and would like to stop by and say 'Hi' if that fits into your schedule! Doug

Thought for the day....heck, every day!!!! 'The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything.'

For the second and third one you copied and pasted the shortened displayed link text so they won't work. Send me a PM with the actual URL and I'll edit the correct ones in. For example we have this longer url which is the memberlist sorted by posts:

Code: Select all
http://nepacrossroads.com/memberlist.php?mode=&sk=d&sd=d#memberlist

The forum software here and other places typically shortens the displayed text because some of them can be very long, this is what you copied but it's not the actual URL:

http://nepacrossroads.com/memberlist.ph ... memberlist

If you hover over that link or click it you'll see it's the full link. Instead of copying and pasting link text right click the link and select "Copy link location" and paste that.

FYI you could format URL's with custom text:

Code: Select all
Memberlist Sorted by Posts

That will produce this: Memberlist Sorted by Posts

If anyone wants to see how I did mine I will send you pics. I will need your email address

You're more than welcome to start a new topic and upload them here if you're interested.

For the 3rd link, just open it and in the search box type augers
The second one worked for me.

I made a plexiglas rectangle to fit in my ash pan, longer on one side and about 1/2 inch smaller than the width if the pan. I pull the ash pan out a little slide cover over the ashes then remove it. Works great, Very little dust.

Good luck, Stan

Hey gents,

65th birthday present to myself; I have 8 tons of rice to relocate to the basement with no easy access to the basement windows for the delivery truck…. I went with the 4" X 11’ Westfield utility auger as I believe Stan has, cost was $330 + tax. I really like Stan’s set up.

The motor is a 1HP 120VAC 1725 RPM; name plate data pic attached. Motor was $123 shipped to the house by FedEx from automationdirect.com. The motor pulley is 2” auger pulley is 10”. The auger came with an 8” pulley and drive belt. I’m using an A33 drive belt with the pulleys above and that gives me adjustment range for tension if needed without buildout of motor platform height. I have some work to do for auger support/portability similar to what Stan shows. I feel I’ll be as pleased as Stan is with his auger…… only surprise for me so far is this type of utility auger utilizes a wood/oil impregnated bearing on the drive side of the auger, manufacture states a replacement bearing is $14.

Stan, thank you for all the info on your setup.......Dick

That looks like it belongs in a granary.

Be carefull of the worm that sticks out of the end that pulls your coal in, I have a friend that steped into one in a grain bin and it tore his foot off and had it in a railroad car befor it could be shut off.
