OK GUYS AND GALS JUST LIT THE HARMON STOKER

I'm right there with ya. Setting on a comfortable rocker in the basement nursing a fresh load of coal. I'm typing on this new fangled gadget, it does all sorts of things, I hear it even makes phone calls.

Just lit the DS too. She's almost full of pea coal. I've got the front of the fire box red and banked the coal to the back.

I've still got the thermostat set at 5 and the ash door open. I'm gonna start dialing it down here soon. And put the hopper in.

That's a nice stove you have there, the dealer had that one working last winter when I was shopping around, it throws a lot of heat off and kept his shop warm.

Thanks. I see you have the Basement 1627. Mine is the New Basement Circulator 1600. It's got fancy mesh on the side of it. I removed the hopper door cover. The stove is smack dab in the middle of my living room. Keeps my house anywhere between 70°-80°+ all winter.

Geeze! You guys are spending matches like they grow on trees! You could have all met someplace & passed one match around.

Thanks for reminding me Freddy, I need to get a case of matches to get me through the first month of heating season with the Monticello

What did you do, somehow gathered up some MA politicians around your house & their hot air is keeping you warm?

Now THAT would roast me out of the house!

Naw, I just used a lighter on some OSB. We got 7 hours of heat out of 2 sheets, and 152° hot water. House actually held the heat all night (helps when the fieldstone & concrete soaks it all up). Was still 68° in here when I got up this morning. Only 1/4 of the ash pan was full .... even including all the nails!

The stove, chimney, and coils are blacker than the ace of spades though ...

Long range forecast says mid 60's next week for my neck of the woods.
My anticipated first match will be Sunday morning Oct 28th if its right
Mid 40's after that date!

I fired up the Hitzer about a week ago. One match so far. With the warm spell comming I will be running the window stats quite a bit, but I hate to let it go out and have to clean out the fire box and start over. Evening are still cool enough to need a fire. This is my sixth heating season with coal. I have made the one match club only one year so far. Gonna try for it again this year.

Me too. Been lit for a week now and it's been some nights in the low 30s like last night and some in low 50s with days in 40s and as high as 60 some.
The Glen 116 has great control and will hold at 200 or a bit less all day on those 60 degree days which is what I'd hoped. It's all about air tight when you want control. Woke up this morning at it was 30 with a good frost.
The stove was set for 350 degrees and since it's had a week to soak the old house with heat, 350 was enough have the old place at 70 when I woke. That's encouraging because the almanac says we have a cold winter ahead of us. Think I have plenty of horse power now to handle any situation here. I also have the cookstove in the kithen to help in the coldest months but for the most part, this 116 can do it all.
