Wow, That is impressive! Nice looking 88 too. Is that a Baldwin or Steinway maybe? The ceilings look increadible too. Looks like brownstone like the NY buildings. Really a nice place and will make a great B&B. Classy, and the Sanford White name won't hurt a bit either ;-)

Yes, the inside of the house certainly puts the correct date on it. Even though we don't think of it as such today, they thought of that interior as, "Colonial Revival." This was a simpler, yet still high style idea, than the opulent interiors that ruled during the Victorian Era and were still in style even then during the first years of the Century. When this house was built it was considered the most modern thing on a foundation. 1905 is very early for the Foursquare Design. I find these types of houses quite interesting because they have the elements of the transition from Nineteenth Century esthetic ideas to those of the 20th Century which were expressed in the Craftsman, Stickley and Chicago Prairie styles .

Thank goodness some body during the 40's or 50's didn't paint the woodwork. How fortunate!!!!

I thought I explained the check damper to you already. The check damper is an additional control you have over the draft inside the stove. What is does is short circuits the air flowing from the primary dampers and allows it to flow up into the exit rather than through the grates to the fire. It slows and cools the fire by slowing the air flow through the fire and lowers draft pressure by cooling the stove pipe. You can use this in addition to the primary drafts and stove pipe damper to control EXACTLY how much heat the stove develops.

Thanks william for the operation of the check dampers. I am looking forward to firing up the stove, but first I have to finish burning about 1/4 cord of wood in my iron house stove. Don't want to burn wood in my ruby since it will soot up the mica. And yes it is fornatute that the previous owners didn' paint the woodwork. It in pristene condition and the craftmenship is a site to behold. A few of the bedrooms have been painted.,but as a long range I may have them stripped. All the woodwork is oak with the exception of the parque floors have some maghoney accents
