Thanks u all for the warm welcome. I closed on my house last feb. I spent $1500 alone in oil for the house and hot water from feb to middle of april . We all know how warm the spring was here too!!
I was going to do the wood thing because I grew up on wood, but I have a co worker that talked me into coal.
So far Im glad he did. coal is about the same price as wood for around here, but its keeping my 2000sq ft house warmer at 70* Plus theres no cutting, splitting, stacking. I can spend that time I saved at work makeing over time.

While coal may be the same price as wood. (ton v cord) I have found that a ton of coal provides the same measure of heat as close to 2 cords of wood. So coal is actualy much cheaper. Not to mention the ease of use and less wear and tear on the body!

Many of us here on this great forum are former wood burners and some us still do burn a little wood here and there. Love the smell of a wood fire myself.

Because im new to coal My biggest worrie is a hopper fire or C O exposer. I have a mark2 manometer placed on the straight of the pipe right after the stove and about 18' from a T. In the T there is a field control type M barometric damper. After the T is a 90* out the wall to over 12 ft of stanless chimny. I know befor I started my stove when the house was warm and it was cold outside the manometer would read .01 buy itself so I know I have a good draft. with the stove running it holds the requierd .04 pretty well. Iv also replaced a hopper gasket and sealed the gasket with high temp silicon. For the co part I have two detectors on in the stove room and one in the room next to the stove. Iv done every thing in my power to prevent these problems, and will just have to learn to trust it. Little scared leaving the house yesterday with a running stove.

Ccm like anything, there are a set of guidelines for burning coal safely--YOU, have, from what you are saying, met & surpassed ALL those guidelines On the other hand, you might just like to over-think & worry about stuff. Give yourself a break & live, love & be happy. There are ways to hook up a camera system to cell or computer & keep an eye on things 24/7/365-- Dude, lighten up on yourself

Ya i know im a bit of a worrie wort when it comes to stuff like this.
If i know myself corectlly, after week of useing the stove it will be second nature
And i wont even think about it.
