Dayton 4C826 blower on Hitzer 50-93 needs speed controller

Spec sheet says it's a shaded-pole motor, so I thought a ceiling fan control would work.

The one that I tried, didn't. Purchased at Lowe's, "Lutron" brand, FSQ 2FH DK. This is advertised as a 'silent' control, ie, reduces motor hum. Three speeds, rotary knob, like a dimmer switch, but discrete clicks, Off-Hi-Med-Lo-Off. The motor ran full speed on Hi no problem; Med was turning maybe 10% to 20% normal, and Lo didn't rotate at all.

Suggestions for something that will work better? I don't mind either putting it into the junction box on the back of the stove, or into a box complete with stub cord and controlled receptacle (could use that with box fan in the summer!)

Thanks much
Jacob

No, just figured I could prevent someone else buying something that wasn't suited for the job at hand. Also figured I might get more answers with a more specific thread title.

I think the silent controller means it's not meant to make the motor 'hum' as some fans do when not on 'high'. I don't know how they do that, must be they pick certain settings that don't resonate? IIRC triac controllers clip part of the sine wave off, so it has more 'off' and less 'on' time, but at the same frequency.

Didn't see anthing like your controller for sale today, but only made it to the big Blue Box which isn't exactly known for its depth of stock of somewhat unusual (or non-made-in-China) items.
